strange knocking noise from front wheels

Post by luke t »

hi,
ive got a new 95 na auto, and when driving i can hear a knocking from the front wheels, i think mainly drivers side.
it has reciepts for new bearings on the front 2 months ago, and the calipers i dont think are sticking on as they are not hot when stopping.
it also has new pads and discs on the front.
the noise is defo wheel noise, as it knocks quicker when going quicker, and gets louder when conrnering.
any ideas.
have noticed the rear discs get a little hot on a run, but not the fronts
cheers

ill check them in the morning.
i hope it is the nuts, although i may pay the salesman a visit as i drove 40 miles home with possibly loose nuts.
if it is i may have to loosen his nuts with a mighty boot!

it was the nuts,

 Did you speak to the place you got it from and ask why they think glue should be used to hold nuts on and why they thought it was safe for you to drive away

take a photo of the wheel as it is now, and closeups of the broken studs and the glued one.

take said photo back to place you got it from and tell them in a very pleasnt manner that you require a free full service (with evidence of all work done) from them or this picture might find its way to trading standards.....

just a suggestion

already done folks,
the salesman (or dodgy tit as i now call him) said he didnt know anything about it, and it must have been the garage that refurbed the wheels and did mot.
i have informed him it will cost me 250 quid for studs and nuts (obviously not) and he has a week to decide, or not only will i inform trading standards but also vosa for the garage who knackered my nuts!
got 10 studs today, just need nuts.

Make sure you get proper Toyota studs as aftermarket ones dont always fit properly into the holes in the hub!
Thats a poor show from the garage if it was them, theyre lucky an accident didnt result!

You need to undo the caliper and remove the disc to see what your doing and get new stud in, then line the stud up with the cut ou/ recess in the hubfrom behind and big hammer and out it pops!

to get the new ones in (they are press fit) use a socket over the stud, then you can tighten a wheel nut onto it to pull it through, that's what i did, not too big a job :thumleft:
