[Mk2] [NA] Raising rev limit?????

Post by jem »

Following from my car being dynoed yesterday, that's confirmed what I've always thought, the rev limit kicks in too early. The limit kicks in at 7250rpm, but the engine is still pulling hard. I plan on changing the cams and doing some head work in the future, which would further benefit from a higher rev limit.

So how do you raise/remove the rev limit on a Rev 3 NA??

The only way to raise the rev limiter is to look for either a reprogrammed/chipped ecu (like a mines/blitz access for turbos) or a piggyback/standalone ECU. Ive heard of a few using the Greddy Emanage system with the n/a but not too sure which would be best as I have a turbo. Downside of a chipped ecu is you dont always know what they have been set up for eg increased fuel/higher rev limit

I ran a Greddy Emanage Ultimate on my old 3SGE engine and raised the rev limit myself through that.

it had piper 264 cams 10.4mm lift, piper vernier pulleys, ported and polished head, 4-1 stainless manifold, 3sgte 11lb lightened fly, 6 paddle camry 2.2 clutch inc 3sgte pressure plate, Apexi power intake, ARP head bolts and a few other bits and pieces.

The Launch control was also fun

it was a rev2 engine so 158bhp (at the fly standard), I had it rolling mapped at 154bhp at the wheels, so pushing 200 fly hp .. and then a shoved a 200shot (100bhp) of directly ported nos on it

yeah until i blew the ringlands twice, I dont think it was the nos that caused it, the nos just highlighted the problem as I later found several major flaws in the mapping that Thor racing did [-X
