losing power.

Post by Animal85 »

Right then, the car is driving fine until i put my foot down. The turbo begins kicking in then all of a sudden the car looses power and sounds/feels like its miss-firing, with a grumble coming from somewhere in the back. Any ideas?

Have you done a ecu fault code check ?
Are you running standard boost, using a boost controller ?
When was the last time the ignition compondents serviced ?
What fuel you using ?
Have you checked the vac hoses?

Can be a number of things.
We ALL make mistakes !!! :)

As above give your ignition components a good look over and replace if necessary. Namely your distributor cap, rotor arm, ht leads and coilpack.

i've had a problem similar to that in the past ran fine until you tried to put boost into it..

they had the ecu off checked all manor of things and is was a 30p hose (finger size hose not the big ones). had a small tare in it near one of the sensors.

if mine wasn't in bits i'd photo it. can have a look tomorrow if your still stuck. (turbos f@#ked so taking the opportunity to fit charge cooler and decat.. what a nightmare its turning out to be. nearly there now)

Ha, just had my turbo done. Funny story really.... bought another one which was put on and turned out to be worse than the original, then bought another and then told that my original one was fine, it was just a Gasket!!! Now i have two spare turbo's sat in the garage, and a huge dent in my wallet!

Like i said, hopefully inexpensive!

I think it was the little pipe directly under the oil filler cap (next to my disconnected lambda censer)

I could well be talking out me ar$e as it was a few year ago.. i'm sure someone will put me straight if i'm pointing to a water pipe or summit as soft

gutted i've just noticed i've knocked the cloth off my throttle body pipe thing.
back down the road we go

Seems to be sorted. Replaced the spark plugs but continued to misfire, so i took it too a garage. They suggested that it was over boosting, and told me to put it on a rolling road to tune it up. Thats all booked up for next week but in the meantime i have changed the HT leads, dizzy cap and rotor arm.......and now it runs fine!

Thanks for all of the help and suggestions.
