Max passenger weight

Post by BIGBOBO »

So I need to transport an engine and have no other car.

Passenger seat (with the seat removed), bad idea or not?

Bit afraid it will mangle soms suspension components :s

A quick google tells me 123kg or so dry, so it'd just be like a bit of a fat bloke in your passenger seat, factor in weight lost from the seat and I'd say you'll probably be fine...
But I'll let someone else confirm that! :D

Weight wise it'll be fine.

I'd be a little wary of carrying that kind of load in the passenger compartment unless it was *VERY* well strapped down though. You really don't want that thing rattling about in there should the worst happen and the car ends up upside down.

+1

Not much to strap to, mind? :-k

Best would be to bolt some straps to the seat mounting holes..?

And take it slowly.....

Watch out for oil / coolant leaking, too.. :thumleft:

What, in the boot of a Mk1 MR2? That's impressive.....
January 2014
..the only thing I can promise for sure is slow progress.

May 2015
just have this niggling thought that if I rip out the wiring, then the car will never get out of the garage again.

Still in the garage...

I managed to move house from washington (tyne & wear) to bristol two weeks ago with all my worldly possessions,(clothing, electric drum kit, pet snake and viv, tattooing and art equipment and a small libarys worth of books not to mention spare anti roll bar and droplinks and a large bottle of coolant packed into every bit of space i could find in my car and it was fine cruising at 60 all the way with a couple of stops. just take it easy.

I've had a C20LET Calibra transfer box in a Mk1 boot, but not the entire engine

With or without the seat? I guess you need something to distribute the weight evenly.

I'm talking about a SC engine so its more around 150kg instead of 130ish.

as the seat is a 3 bolt jobbie taking it out is easily a 10 minute job, so thats a no brainer, to get an engine in (NA deffinately SC I haven't done but would assume the same) you will need to remove the inlet manifold etc. to get the door shut, weight on the floor isn't a problem unless your floor pan is rusted out and if that were the case I ask why you are driving it in the first place? if you are concerned about denting the floor pan then go to your local timber merchants and get a piece of 12mm MDF cout to fit on the floor and put the engine on that & line the footwell and transmittion tunnel with the thickest cardboard you can get hold of to stop anything digging into either the center console or the kick panel trims etc.
door is easily wide enough & floor low enough for two reasonably strong people to lift the engine in & out without any hassle
