A bolt-on Mk1 roof a la Mk3 hardtop would have finished it off nicely, would it not..?

That car doing the rounds again the guy wanted a fortune for it last year said it used to be a demo. The kit is the euro sport kit casco used to do.

Anyone can hack the roof off a Mk1, it's making a weathertight replacement that takes the skill. Also if that wasn't previously a T-bar it'll fold like a pancake.

thats terrible! looks poorly done/maintained. in a country with our climete, that idea wasn't really thought through. REALLY REALLY impractical car. Like Paul said, im sure its lost a lot of its stabaility.

More a barchetta than a converible I'd say - and as has been pointed out, kinda hopeless in this climate

May as well strip it out, replace the windscreen with an aero screen and go the whole hog if it doesn't have a roof at all. Slap some decals on or paint it Gulf colours and go for the LM Sports Prototype look. Just the thing for the hardcore 24 Heuers fan I'd say

Yep - the term 'convertible' implies it can be converted from roofless to roofed, but in this case it can't

I built a super light version, I took the engine out sadly performance suffered is it worth owt?

apart from all the obvious negative aspects of this, an mr2 with no roof does look good, if Toyota had ever done one that would be the model i would be buying.

They did, they tendered out 15 cars in the US to a conversion company who converted 15 brand new Mk1's, i believe the buyers got a nice discount on the job too.

I think only 2 or 3 of those original 15 exist today though.

i agree, i like the t-bar, i've had a couple of convertibles and i always felt really exposed(and a bit of knob if i'm honest), the t-bar feels much better, don't feel exposed and the roof is still off, but yeah, that looks awful, as does the mk2 convertible, and the celica convertible is equally horrific!!

I think the factory Mk1 convertibles look fantastic, they even made sure it retained all of its original roof lines with the hood up, i'd kill for one.
