MOT fail

Post by Gonzo12c »

Hi folks first thing to cure on the Mr2 is the MOT is up at the end of the month and had a pre test to see what it needs and here is the results.

Fail on following

parking brake efficiency below
front sidelight out
horn not working
rear tyre
exhaust emission fail
exhaust emissions lambda reading after 2nd fast idle outside specified limits

Ok so not too bad all in but i could do with some help on the parking brake and exhaust faults.

The exhaust is aftermarket and cat back could this be causing the failure?

Also where is the adjustment on the handbrake?

Cheers folks

HB fail could be either one of the wheels not locking up or uneven braking. Hows the pads looking, calipers siezed or need a clean, discs wearing evenly?

Reset both calipers and see if that helps.

Saw Cataclean on sale at my local motorfactors and thought, is there anything that people WONT make so dumb motorists WILL buy!!!

I put that on the same level as electric superchargers, unless theres ACTUAL evidence that it works, as theres no way of knowing.

If you havent change the spark plugs, dizzy cap, HT leads in a while, it could be that, or try replacing the lambor sensor. Sticking a tin of gollop in there if you have faulty parts wont fix it, unless you have a friendly MOT tester

As for the HB, you need to give your rear calipers a once over to get them working properly.

just checked with VOSA they have done it on a cat test and should be on a non cat test so that will pass plus they shouldnt of done Lambda test so thats that sorted. Getting tyre done today and fixed the light last night so just leaves the parking brake and the horn :)
