Hi All

well good news is My starter motor is now on and i managed to do it myself up on to axel stands at night with very limited light yet still i managed to put it all on within an hour. So why couldn't 3 mechanics figure that one out :S. But its now starting like a modern car again first turn on ignition :D slight problem now is that it has a weird idle which it started doing when it came back from the garage. it idles at 2000rpm and sometimes it keeps going up and down very rapidly like its about to die then it kicks back up :S.

I thought my rear lights where the same as any over UK one can any one point me out the differences.

 Good stuff!

Two possibilities here:

1. Air in the coolant - solution jack up ar$e end and bleed coolant

2. Slight air leak in the inlet manifold/past the throttle butterfly, once the car warms up the ECU gets confuzzled as more air's getting past than should be for the TPS reading it's seeing. Check for vacuum hoses with holes/unplugged etc.

I'm not sure from your description which it might be as the rapid rev bounce suggests number 2 but the drop way down low says number 1 to me.

What did the garage do to the car while they had it? (Apart from moan about the starter motor)

Thanks jimi i'll try both things either tonight if i can be bovered plus qpr are playing on tv :D , or tomorrow morning before i give it its weekly wash and hopefully that will sort the problem out.

as for what the garage did i'll never know, its where my dad works as an MOT tester and he said all they did was get it on the ramps took about 2 hours to take the old starter off ??? dnt know why. looked at it and said this looks different and so they decided to put the old one back on and sling my car out of the garage. My dad did get my money back plus a bit extra cause he took the old one in today to show his boss that I was able to do it ;).

well im hoping to start a project thread soon so will have lots of pictures very soon.

Thanks all for your help

well done, nothing like that feeling when you do it yourself and succeed where the "professionals" have failed :D

It's the central panel, its ribbed on yours (oh er) and allows for a smaller number plate. UK ones are smooth and the number plate lights are further apart

I have seen that my lights arnt actually further apart than the UK one, Reason for this is it has been modified. I have seen that another two holes have been cut to put these ones in place as to why one of the previous owners did this I dont know :S

You'd be better taking both rad hoses off and flush the rad on it's own, then flush the pipes from the pressure cap in the engine bay. It's probably worth flushing the heater matrix separately as well. Flush in both directions on everything if possible, you'll be surprised at the amount of crud that comes out especially if it hasn't been done for a few years.

ok will do that tomorrow as :o Il take both hoses of the rad and flush that seperatly meanwhile I'll have a hose going through the filler cap. Only thing im not too keen on is getting to the engine block bleeder next to the filter as tbh i know its ganna be a pain to get to.

You won't need to touch that one, the only bleed points you need to do are the one on the thermostat housing, one on the radiator and the one for the heater matrix in the front boot behind the trim panel.

Well didnt get time to drain my car cooling system but will do so when I can get a bit of coolant. Took a few photos but not of the car itself as I wanted to clean it but it rained and I want to put a new front bumper on. Mines a bit wonky for some reason :S.

Well this is the starter I pulled of, If anyone wants it to refurb let me know all you have to do is pay postage if unable to collect

:?
Well I've never seen a surround like that, That's definitely 1b heater controls but the surround isn't 1a or 1b, or rather it isn't UK spec 1a or 1b, UK 1b would have a cubby hole below the stereo. May well be standard JDM.

Nice :thumleft: original mini's are a long term fav of mine. I have to say you could have done with lowering the steering column, would have looked and driven better
