G-Limited Manual Gearbox

Post by smudge »

Hi... My K reg G-Limited has a crunchy 3rd gear when changing down but not up. I have to go into 2nd before going into 3rd when changing down, so I'm thinking the sincro's gone so was wondering what gearbox I can use in mine? Ie UK n/a, turbo or do I have to use a Gltd. Or could it be a linkage/cable or clutch that's at fault? Any advise would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanx

The problem with your existing gearbox is a worn synchro.

You can use any S54 gearbox from any naturally aspirated mk2 MR2 - UK or Japanese import. You cannot use the turbo gearbox without modification, and many costly extra parts.

Are there versions of the S54 box that has LSD?

Yes. UK models appear to have had a torsen type helical diff as OE equipment for about the last six months of production, but the same diff was optional from revision 4.

You can retrofit the LSD from a UK spec MR2 Roadster gearbox.

Can I use a rev1 gearbox? Only asking as the engine in most rev1 are fse's and have a mechanical speedo mechanism instead of the electrical one on the rev2+!?!?
