Interesting, MK2 Turbo on F plate

Post by craig »

Very smart example:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 0723792824

Must admit, first time in like 8 years of owning MR2's that I've seen a MK2 on an F plate!

Even the late MK1's I've seen on G plate reg. Must have been an overlap on the change over of the MK's

hmm, doesn't look like a private reg and F would tie in with 1989, just never seen a MK2 on F reg :)

Maybe it was imported from the showroom in japan or a toyota demo car in japan? They get the mr2 before us?

Plates are just what year the importer declared when it was imported....it's probably still a 1989.

Just to be a bit more specific with the dates:

F reg = 1 August 1988 – 31 July 1989
G reg = 1 August 1989 – 31 July 1990

The mk2 was launched in December 1989, in both Japan and UK, AFAIK.

As Toni has already said, it depends on what date the importer declared when it was imported.
Clearly a mistake that the DVLA should have picked up on, but there you go.

reg plate

I agree with the comments above. I have a rev 2 which is on an M plate which is fine but should actually be an L plate - it was a mistake when imported but not an issue.

I would guess a private plate as that car was registered on 1/6/98 so I would presume its an import

It's not uncommon for Dvla! We notice alsorts when they come to us. The most on the mr2 is being declared as a non turbo like our show car. It's alway better to tell the truth insurance wise or you run the risk of losing your pride and joy!
