yep, exactly the same sound :)
im starting to think that it's something whining in the cambelt area - but i dont know until i get someone to look at it. what was worrying me is that it dissapeared on cold mornings, then started with a looooud screech. like a pulley was stuck somewhere, or the belt was slipping on it... dont know.

Mine has been worse in the colder weather today, heard it in all gears.

Pretty sure its just the belts. A friend, who is on here said his does it after he has washed his car normally. So seems to be cold/and or water affecting the belt.

Going to try and look at it on the weekend.

thats my suspicion as well, will keep an eye open for it. I recently had the thermostat changed the 'quick' way without draining the coolant, we might've gotten the coolant sprinkled over the belt, we shall see :P

edit: now that it's gotten more frosty then wet, it stopped screeching :p stupid weather.

it's going to be alternator/alt belt.

Everything on your cambelt is brand new :thumleft:

It seems to rise with revs, stop at a certain point, then come back again at lower revs (or when i put the fogs on!!)

If putting your fogs (= more load on the alternator) on makes the noise come on it surely is your alternator belt. Or alternator. I say 99% of your alternator belt being loose.

:( siiiiiigh, i had my suspicions. Thanks for the help people! Ill get it sorted as soon as this crappy weather decides to stop - i can only imagine (with my 2 being non-garaged) that the moisture has caused this?

just FYI, that's sorted - the sound was indeed the alternator, what a b1tch to get out. The bottom bolt was stuck solid and stripped, but some heat convinced it to come out. We discovered that it had a cracked housing aswell.
New alternator (thanks TCB) - no whining. And thanks to Pacific for another job well done.
