Rear foglight modification

Post by freakyeke »

I was reading an article by Stef Derner on how to use 2x3A diodes to disable the inner pair of rear lights, so you can then use them as fog lights when needed =D>

Does anyone have a part number from Maplin for the said 3A diodes?

I've looked on the Maplin website, and there's lots of diodes to choose from.

I'm confused :?

Thanks,
Dion.

Any of the 3 or 6A rectifier diodes will do the job. I've used the p600 ones and I also used a bridge rectifier which has the diodes arranged in the right kind of way, you just cut 1 leg off.

You do know that fog lights are the same wattage as brake lights, 21w. I have just cut into the inside brake lights and wired them to the front fog light switch. This means I still have all 4 on as tail lights.

It's

HERE

The mod uses the two inner brakelights as fogs when the fog light switch is on and they are brakelights when the fog switch is off.

Brilliant!

This is a BRILLIANT modification - just did it on my Rev 1 Turbo though in the end I used 3 diodes to reduce the amount of new wiring I would have to run. I bought the Diodes from Maplin, they are:

Product No: P600A - Part no: UK59P

@ 50p each!

I dont know if the Wire colour codes are the same for all revisions but I will do a write up of how I wired it all up in the not too distant future.

ok, its more of a ramble than a set of instructions and please point out any glaring omissions / errors I've made. I'll be happy to correct them. As I said ^^ and in the write up, Stef's article from the oc gives you the info you need, I've included my ramblings of the course I took to get there. It's your car, if you break it it's not my fault.
