I have held off buying a ps3 and hdtv until gt5 is released. Ive bought the ps3 but now need a hdtv. Looking round the shops and online im getting confused. I need the advice of someone knowledable on the tv front.
I would like 37-40 inch screen. I have around a £400 budget and im coming across a hurdle. Do I go for a 1080p model with a 50mhz refresh rate or a 720p model with a higher refresh rate. For my budget, cant seem to find 1080p with a decent refresh rate and size that I would like . Tv will be used for gt5 95% of the time.

1080p rules all. I can't believe they still make TVs in that size that aren't 1080p.

Go into Currys or similar and directly compare their screens using a BD or game of your choice (I used Independence Day and Forza 3 when I bought mine), then go home and buy from the interweb. Use your own eyes to decide what's best for you.

I know 1080p is cool but would it not be better to have a better refresh rate for driving games?

I have read that the ps3 outputs 720p and upscales it to 1080p

Do you know what refresh rate it outputs at?

The PS3 outputs at 60Hz (or 50Hz for PAL DVDs and SD, or 24Hz for some Blurays), getting a 100/120Hz or 200Hz TV isn't really any gain.

In fact, for 200Hz, the TV has to fill-in/invent the inbetween frames. So it needs to delay the output image as it uses 'future' images to guess where stuff is moving - lag.

I've got a 200Hz 1080p TV, the 200Hz is switched off as it makes broadcast TV look a little odd.

The PS3 can output at a lot of different resolutions. GT5 outputs at 1080p (if the PS3 is set to 1080p).

irie, definitely go for a 1080P if you can, GT5 will make use of it and it looks fantastic.

I know your probably chomping at the bit to go buy a TV, but honestly you are best of waiting until after Xmas, there'll be sales starting boxing day and you'll be able to pick up a TV cheaper.

I bet this will be available after xmas for 400 notes.

I bought my Toshiba in the Xmas sales a couple of years ago, it was £499 before the sales and £399 once they started.

Even Black Ops is 3D isn't it? Anyone tried it?
Not heard of anyone commenting on it.
3D TV seems like a gimmick to me :-k

Its definitely gona be the way forward but atm its not great for gaming. Played a few games on the top Sony 3D TVs with the gucci 3D glasses. Gives you a headache. Black Ops isnt supposed to be that great in 3D, nothing special anyway. 2D will look rubbish in 5+ years time maybe sooner. They've got the tech' for 3D TVs without glasses but the price would be incredible and far to expensive to mass produce, atm anyway. Same with Blueray 1080p, tech is out there for far higher res.

3D is a gimmick that will never catch on, not in the next 10 years at least. It was invented to make people start buying TVs again after we'd all upgraded to HD sets, but thankfully the general public aren't that stupid and so no-one's really buying into it right now.

Thank you all for the advice.. Ive been waiting for ages to buy one. I hear what you are saying with waiting though. In my experience waiting, the things I want either go off the shelf or go up in price.

Does this look any good??? All advice welcome as I really dont know too much about this stuff

I got my despatch email yesterday. Just out of interest when did you pre-order?

I did mine back in January.

Ah, am guessing I was probably ahead in the queue. Still they'll all come Wednesday I would think.
