My Rev3 Transplant Engine Conversion

Post by ChrisActon »

My Rev3 Engine from Rouge will be ready in the next couple of weeks and a week after that once Millway have fitted it I get my MR2 back after 4+ months off the road, I can't wait, be like having a new car!

How much extra power do you think I can expect compared to my old Rev2 lump with my mods? The last dyno session before I broke it my Rev2 was putting out 230bhp/240lb/ft at just under 1 bar. I will also be added the unichip electronic boost module to control the boost better the the current bleed valve does.

Also, do you think I might have problems with insurance cos of the Rev3 engine conversion?

Cheers, Chris

Hi Chris, my car had a rev3 engine put in whilst it was in Japland.
I currently have the boost at 1.15 bar, Aussie downpipe and 3"Fujitsubo exhaust and 1s water injection and mine is managing 306bhp.
Thats with no ECU tinkering and standard intercooler.

Hope that cheers you up!! :D

Lol ! And now for dissapointment !! hehe ! Most of the rev 1/2's I've seen will take a rev 3 over the qrt mile !!

When I had a rev 2 engine in mine, the thing used to still hold its own against the rev 3.... now I've got a rev 3 unit in, there is more ummphhh at the high end revs - qrt mile times not really changed.... did manage a 13.12 with the rev 2 but with the rev 3 ... a 12.94 qrt !

The main change you notice is the throttle response... which is mainly to do with the ecu on the later models and the turbo - which realistically you can do the ecu swap on the earlier models and a turbo swap !

Rev 3's tend to put out more hp on the dyno, but the rev 1/2's will be putting out the same level of torque due to being higher compression - so realisically the performance is similar.

As JJ said, the rev 3's are much more responsive with the later EMS and have more potential once tuning begins :)
Small turbos - they're not big and they're not clever!

Just say NO to small turbos!

It does Jimbo cheers! Who you insured with if you don't mind me asking? I was with Dorset before but I was not impressed with the way they operate so I am looking to change to someone else who offers track cover too.

Can't wait to get out on a track day once my MR is back, anyone know when the next IMOC event is cos I had to pull out of the last one because my toy was broken :(

At long last my MR2 is back, after some messing around with the power steering.

Feels like a differnet car, much smoother power delivery, feels a bit quicker too even with out the unichip re-fitted.

Well chuffed
