[Mk2] [Turbo] Advice on which cc core to choose?

Post by ashley »

I'm currently running a BMIC, but with my up coming rebuild I want to switch to a BMCC instead- my aim is stable inlet temperatures for track work.

I'm not looking to run huge boost for the track, so not huge hp (but the occasional blast with upped boost is definately on the cards).

I plan to run a 3076r on a 2.2 block, with a worked head and big cams.

My plan had been to use a modified Radtech core in the boot, but a couple of comments made to me by folk has made me doubt this plan? I've also been looking at the PWR barrel cores and they do sound the daddies, but am struggling to find too many people with experience of them.

Whatever happens I will use a large front mount rad for cc fluid cooling, and a swirl pot.

What cc core would you use and why? I want something well upto the job, but that has potential to run higher BHP levels in the future should I go down that route.

if you can afford a pwr core go for it.
If not 2 other options. 3S/TGT do boot mount options, or get in contact with johnny g and find out where he got his monstorous boot mount core from

Cheers guys...not sure which way to go tbh...

I can afford the PWR, but I've not found anyone who can tell me from experience how good they are. Dangerous Dan has one, but due to other factors his inlet temps are up there- so difficult to judge.

I know Roy Ashby ran one too- but that was HUGE....

And I know that others have run custom cc's with huuuuge cores that cool really well...and don't want anything too big....it's just judging the compromise that's difficult :-k

Maybe I should just get a bigger intercooler and an underfloor scoop....

Yeah- maybe I should stick with a bmic, I just wanted something that would give me more stable iat's...hence a cc. It's supposed to be a prefered option for track work I thought...

I already have water/meth injection, but not too keen to use it all the time- I'm sure I've read about it potentially causing damage to the engine in the long run...reaction with alloys or sommit, can't remember!

Am also gonna be runnin 3076r on a 2.2 . I've got a radtec at the moment which I think should be fine upto 500bhp. I dont really plan on running over 1.5bar so I dont think I'll exceed this figure

I'm gonna add a devils own kit to the mix also. Get roys chargecooler hes breakin it now. I bet you could cryo freeze your engine with that thing 8-)

PWR cores are pretty awesome. Only one ive had experience with was on the drag strip so bit dffrent but heald out well on the dyno. Well made bits of kit and not as restrictive compaired to other designs.

AEM stuff is very cheap, there is a seller on ebay doing very low rates on all AEM gear. They all use the same shurflo pumps. The newest AEM one is pretty good.

You using those 264's in this build Ash?

Sorry, I have no input, except I'm not overly enamoured (sp?) with my Radtec, not got any decent figures to technical prove anything, just my gut feeling.

Nope- the 264's are still tucked away keeping warm for the winter, they may come out to play again at some point....or I may try to get some cash for em again....we shall see

I've got a pair of cat-cam's in my head already for this one bud....bit bigger than the 264's :eye:

Why aren't you using that alloy crank pulley you have by the way??
