i have been told that this will save 2 kgs but surely the aeros will not be as good in the day? obviously better if lights need to be on the flush style used on the japenese racers would be the bomb if they were light best of both worlds but not sure of weight and cost etc

I didn't get my alternator bracket fitted today due to getting my Phoenix power adjustable rear control arms fitted instead and going for alignment.

For those interested in the weights:

Stock rear control arm 4.3kg
Phoenix power rear control arm 3.1kg

Total weight saving a tremendous 2.4kg for both sides
Added bling factor +100%

Mine were made by a Japanese tuning company called Phoenix Power but I believe they might be discontinued now.

However there is a vendor on the American MR2OC.COM forum that was talking about making similar units but he put a post up that recently that they have been put on the back burner for a while due to having too much work to catch up on. Still it might still come about so keep checking on the american forum for updates :thumleft:

How about this then, ditch some unsprung and rotational mass!

Rev 2> 276x31mm

WMS 298.5x18mm

That's a 5.65kg saving per wheel at the front, and with the (full race only, handbrakeless) rear WMS kits as well the total might/should top 20kg saved.

(...plus bigger brakes of course! )

Thought as much #-o

In my defence the carrier on a mk1 is nowhere near as substantial.

Very true. The rear carriers are basically the same design on the mk1/2/3 though...

These look lovely

Is the weight saving in the caliper or the disc? How does the individual brake disc and caliper compare weight wise to the stock items when weighed on their own?

Would it be possible to release a version that allowed people to keep their 15's as I like the idea of saving weight but still want the option to swap on some 15's?

Btw I ended up getting a billet alternator bracket kit from the US forums that weighed a little under 900g in the end. The standard rev 3 turbo alternator bracket is 4.9kg so saved about 4kg there in the end :thumleft:

It's a bit of both!

WMS caliper+bracket+bolts+pads = 2.39kg
Rev2 caliper+carrier+bolts+pads = 5.79kg

WMS 298.5x18 disc = 4.99kg (so 5.0kg spec?)
Rev2 276x32 disc = 7.46kg (so 7.5kg spec?)

I've got that in mind for the future, but it's actually not easy to do due to the shape of the 15" SW20 front wheel...! Also the WMS T20 caliper is pretty tight to the lugs on the strut as-is, so I'll need to do a lot of messing about to make it happen.

See what I mean, look at the lugs:

They look nice but personally I've never heard of them before
Where'd you get them from? I went on a quick search but to no avail!

Any idea of the price on these?

We've been around for years with the Mk1 MR2 kit (and loads of other cars), but the Mk2 MR2 kit is brand new...

We're hidden away in affiliates where the prices etc are... 8-[

Hi mate, here is the link to the one I bought from the US forum:

http://mr2oc.com/showthread.php?t=39578 ... ht=bracket

After UK postage, VAT and customs clearance fees were added it came to about £180 all in.

They got the weight slightly wrong as it isn't quite as light as 1.5lbs (or 670g) but still an awesome weight saving over the 4.9kg stock bracket.

Peter mentioned that it needed a small washer to space it out slightly as the head of the adjuster arm rubbed against the engine mounting (which isn't in any of the fitted pictures in the US forum).

I still have the other light weight cast alloy alternator bracket which is a copy of the stock bracket but much lighter at 1.9kg. I bet you could get it to be very close in weight to the racerx one by trimming away the unnecessary bits and making it into 2 halves like some people have done with the stock one. I may put it up for sale soon if anyone is interested :thumleft:

Thanks for the info. - I would definitely be interested in a light weight brake setup that performed as well as or slightly better than stock but still fit under 15's. That way I could still keep a selection of different alloys. Although I love my 16's and 17's I couldn't sell on my 15" TE37s or Buddyclubs :oldtongue:

No problem. There are some 15's out there that WILL fit 300mm-ish brake kits, so it might be worth you seeing if the PDF profiles fit your ones( http://keri.co.uk/wms/4P018-SW20-298_5m ... otated.pdf )?

The OEM MR2 15's are a no-go though. :(

Right guys, going off topic here.
If you goign to discuss the brakes, please do so in a seperate thread rather than on here.
Keep this to weight saving, not brake discussion.
Thank you.
I am going to live forever, or die trying!
