[Mk2] [NA] Rev 2 Knock Sensor

Post by MA »

Hi chaps,

I bought my two about six months ago now and after starting to give it a bit of a thrashing, a mysterious orange light appeared. I did a diagnostic check and got the error code for the knock sensor, I tried clearing the codes - but once again - the light came back.

Now, I can't seem to find any clear pictures or descriptions that clearly show where the knock sensor is. Can anyone shed any light?

The next part of my question follows on from this - how do I know if the sensor is a duff. From searching on the forum, I understand that if you shake it around a bit and there is a rattle, then chances are it's had it. Is this always the case, ie, must it rattle for the sensor to be a duffer?

If it is a duffer, where's the best place to obtain one from?

Cheers!

the knock sensor is located on the block it self just underneath the intake manifold. Quiet easy to get to just look for a wire coming out of the block... hope this helps :thumleft:

Toyota is the best place for a guaranteed working one but I beleive they cost alot of money plus you want to know what caused the problem to kill the knock sensor first or you might just kill your new one.

Also I think you need to torque them upto a certain Torque setting when putting them on dont you?
