alarm advice

Post by tubby_d »

Now my 2 has arrived I need to secure it from those crooks out there. I live in SE of london.

Can you recommend a good alarm fitter/dealer

What alarm should I go for ?

What sort of price should I be paying for thatcham Cat 1 alarm/immobiliser ?

So far I have been quoted:

Cobra 7928 for £320

Cobra 8186 for £340

Clifford 650 £399

I dont need the facy stuff (remote start, etc......) just the basics

Thanks

I have an Ai606. Was only £275 fitted on my drive. Really helpful guy has done two of my cars with the same alarm. He seems to do a lot of special offers too, if you want some fancy toys (total closure etc.)

His name is Dennis, mob number is : 07980 221525

Ive been told to go for the clifford 650 if im upgrading, my friends a Jap car importer and he puts them on all the cars he imports and thinks they are the best as he also has one on his own skyline.

I considered a Toad alarm but my other friend (lol) works for Unicar and said that Toad alarms are a nightmare if anything goes wrong, once you have paid for yor alarm Toad couldnt care less if you have any problems with it and is so unhelpful, he recommended a clifford alarm aswell.

also my friends Saxo VTS got broken into and stolen not so long ago and that had a Toad alarm on it! 8-[

go Clifford :thumright:

Hi Ms Croft,

You say that you are upgrading?? What alarm did you get then, was it a Toad?? Hoe have you found the alarm you have, the reason I ask is that i have to get a new alarm and immobilser in a weeks time.

Where is a good place to get an alarm?? Why is the Clifford alarm 650 better than the Toad?? I have T-Bar and was recommended the Toad!!

Can anyone with a T Bar recommend a good alarm, that works and is reliable??!!

Cheers

Julian

Hiya, I have not actually ever had a Toad alarm on any of my cars, but I have alot of friends that drive highly modded quite sort after Jap cars, that choose to have a Clifford alarm above all else.

The reason I would not get a Toad alarm is that my friend that works at Unicar (he fits car alarms for a living) says that the Toad alarms are a pain in the @rse! and that Toad do nothing for customer care if anything goes wrong with your alarm. My friend at Unicar highly recommends the Clifford concept 650 over any other alarm. However he says that Cobra alarms are also good.

I still have my standard Toyota alarm on my T-bar MR2, but when I get round to it im booking my MR2 into Unicar (they have branches in Leeds and Doncaster) and im getting a Clifford concept 650 fitted. The main reason i want the 650 is that it has a dual proximity censor which means i will here my car alarm bleep if any dodgy little scrot goes near my baby! [-X

Clifford Concept 650
Brand new Thatcham approved alarm and immobiliser system from the G5 range. Fully compatible with most of the G4 accessories including Intellistart, Tilt and Motion and Nitevision. The Concept 650 offers remote control central locking or total closure (subject to vehicle), one carbon style 5 button remote control with buil-in blue LED and one 4 button carbon styl remote control, dual zone proximity sensing, door, boot, bonnet protection and a 120db battery back-up siren with selectable and multiple tones! Lifetime warranty (subject to terms and conditions) with free fitting available at home or at work.

but have a look around and get what alarm suits you, but i do suggest you make sure that the people that fit the alarm are professionals.. it usually says.. ALL OUR ENGINEERS ARE V.S.I.B APPROVED **

hope ive answered your questions :)

Thanks for the heads up! I too have a late REV MR2, a 98 T-Bar soon to be REV5 turbo conversion! And want an alarm that keeps my 2 safe and sound in my hands only. I have read mixed reviews of the Toad and it certainly has less features than the Clifford and I would have to buy a proximity sensor so that it would protect my 2 with the t-bars off!!! 8)

Total closure is a great feature but more importantly the reliability issue.

I was going to get a Toad next weekend but will now get a Clifford!

Thanks very much for the info =D> ,

regards, julian :D
