^^^^ if your using a cleaner wax you cant really build up coats, as its like you say when you apply it your removing any previous coats..... but with a pure wax like dodo juice, colinite 476s etc you can build up layers by reapplying as these do not contain any cleaners :D

I wondered last time I used it what the difference was between Megs clay bar and the white version of blue tack you used to get was -because tactile they seemed to be the same?

Also, I know I wax more than once but have seen so many times that the previous coat of wax is essentially removed, or partially removed when you wash the car. I guess this makes sence otherwise my cars would have an inch thick residue on them. So waxing a car, then putting another coat of wax on -according to what I've read isn't putting 2 coats on. The second waxing process partially removes the first?

You are still using a lubricant for claying (unless you're using a Bilt Humber bar that uses water) which needs to be removed, you can just wipe it off with a microfibre cloth or quickly wash and rinse.

If you use a pure wax, allow it some time after buffing off the first coat before you apply the second. This time depends on the manufactures recommendation, iirc Dodo Juice specify 24 hours for their soft waxes, others only 6 hours.

To make your wax last longer use a shampoo that is kinder to wax -DodoJuice make 'Born To Be Mild' it is initially expensive at £13 per 250ml but it is ultra concentrated so just a cape full, if that is enough in a large bucket to do an MR2. My wax lasts for about 4 months using that stuff and I'm not even halfway through the bottle after a year (compared to my Megs Gold Class which has consumed 330ml in 5 months).
