for next JAE

Post by phild »

Just a few ideas for the next JAE.
I'm sorry if I sounded negative in my last post,
However....on a much brighter note.
I think IMOC had about 80 cars over the weekend in all (could be wrong), but if we all chipped in £20 over the year, we could buy a big marquee (check out the prices on Ebay), a generator and have a real party no matter what the weather, lights, music, booze, communual barbie, depending on what was left in the funds we could blow the balance on booze and food so the real cost to everyone would be much the same as this year (even Karaoke for the really drunk and myself (':P'), as I live reasonably close to Peterborough, I could (and will if this thing takes off), hire a van, fetch all the stuff and be at the event the previous day to set up, we could organise some dedicated people to help get everything ready. All we are looking at is about at least £1000 which the 80 people who put down on this site to come could easily raise as set out above. The only other problem I can forsee is all the gate crashers wanting to join us without having contributed but that would be up to the club officials to set up a rulling on.
It makes sence to me, I appreciate that the next show is a long way off, but once we have the infrastructure, what is to stop the club from going on IMOC weekends as well?

Brilliant ideas Phil..

I agree... I think this would be a fantastic idea and we did touch on it whilst sitting in the pouring rain on sunday...

I think that IMOC has undergone some mega changes in the last 8months with the start of the forum and in many ways this has meant that we've all had to start from scratch again to some extent.. we are in the midst of trying to formalise the club and move IMOC forwards, so there is a lot going on at the moment.

One thing we do need to sort out is that of event organisers and what with JAE being the biggest event of the year i think this really requires having a person solely to deal with that with regard to running it, planning it etc.. because if we are to have a big do at JAE months of planning will be needed.

I think for sure the admin team were pretty stretched at JAE and this was certainly the case on the run up to the event where we were all very busy.

I think you will notice a lot of changes for the better over the coming months as we get the whole club organised better. I reckon once the silly season is over then toward the end of the year we could be well on the way to ensuring that next years JAE is a show to remember.

I also agree that if the infrastructure is in place that we could have a bigger presence at other shows and events... we very much want to work towards this.

If you are volunteering let us know! ;)

also, (while I'm thinking about it and on a roll),
how about everyone who can fit them in, bring there MR2 related bits and bobs and put them up for sale...I think this sort of thing was sorely lacking on the whole throughout the show.

guys, you've got some great ideas there.

Do you know anyone from the 300 ZX club that was in the top corner behind TOC over the jae weekend?

They had a huge marquee well away form camping areas etc, but it meant they carried on late all weekend without disturbing anyone AFAIK and maintained a great environment that welcomed other clubs to join them and chat. It was really enlightening - and good to talk to people other than just the MR2 crowd. Unfortunately I don't know exactly which ZX club it was or any names from the group we spoke to. But if anyone does have any contact, they would be a great source of advice...

...too true :(

Tried all over the place to get a new set of Magnacor leads for mine (old set are fooked) and nobody had any. I also think that companies like Rogue could have offered a "slightly" lower show price on their products. Some of the stuff was a horrendous price. Thought about buying some quad lights until I saw they were nearly £400!!!

The marquee thing is a brilliant idea! I'd chip in now if you guys wanted it. Anything to get us all together so we can gang up on the scoobies

for next year we should aslo consider hiring a counsellor from tea drinkers anonymous to help us cope with our serious addictions from this year!

don't feel comfortable without a cup in my hand now.

Maybe this is a good oppertunity to get all the clubs together for next year's JAE if all the clubs chipped in and we all got together it would be the envy of every other club there.

All it would take is some early planning and i am sure it would make the weekend amazing.

Ever Hopefull

A sort of bring and buy Blue Peter stylie with its own pitch would be Exellent I am sure that loads of us have odd bits and bobs cluttering up our sheds/garages/kitchens (and in Tonig's case I think its an aircraft hanger :D ) for sale.

Also to raise funds for a large marquee and possibly a PA how about a donation of a quid or so from each of our 2700 members into a JAE fund for next year? or and IMOC National event / fund raiser?

Badges or even address lables with web names and real names on would be great too. ( Personally like the idea of footie style shirts with names across the back for the admin teams but theres potentially a big cost involved in this).

I will also offer my services to help with the organisation for next years event, I dont have enough spare time to run it totally but I can defo help.

A good starting point could be to run a thread "what do you want at JAE next year" and then pick the suggestions that are most do-able with the funds available or have a poll and let the members decide.

I have also wondered why no one has spoken to any software houses like Sony or THQ and the likes, they all make driving games based around our cars (just a thought)

Sorry its a bit long

Great ideas Paul,

i've mentioned this thread to the other admins, think there is a lot of good stuff here to ensure that coming JAEs and hopefully other events will be something to remember.

Thanx for your input. :thumright:

Hi,

I've had experience at organising small events for 100 or so people, food, camping, drinks, dj, entertainment etc.

I'd be willing to help and try and get more people together too. I know a lot of people felt left out this year (I know who you are!!!) and I'd like to help get everyone together next year!

Of course it all depends on a budget etc. I would open up a fund for it right away and get people to start contributing. I know it's a year away, but the earlier it's started, the better!!

Cheers,

Paul.

If there is a fund opened then perhaps we could use something like paypal or similar to make donations to the club, as has been said, if everyone chipped in then funding for this (and other) events would be extremley easy indeed.
As soon as something is open then consider my cash in the pot.

Phil - funnily enough the Admins did chat about opening a donations fund as we have done in previous years to help fund the costs of the pitch etc etc but the general feeling was that we wanted to use the income from the Premium memberships for this rather than having to go back to everyone again.

This year (to give you an idea of the costs) we've spent probably not far off £500 all in all on new banners with the new club logo, prizes for show and shine, electrical hookup charges and stuff like wooden stakes. Chatting to Patrick, previous events have had dontations totaling similar amounts - this year's costs were a little exceptional as half of the cost went in new banners.
