Claybaring question...

Is it okay, safe even? to leave the residue or whatever you want to call it from claybaring my car over night?

In the next two days I want to get the car washed, claybared, washed, polished and then waxed but I'm not sure I have enough time to do it all in one day, plus the weather is pretty unsettled at the moment!

Would it be okay to, wash and claybar one day, then wash, polish and wax the following day?

Just another quick one, is it essential to wash the car again after claying it? It looks clean enough for me to polish straight off but I thought I'd check.....

Yea thats how your ment to do it i thought! If anything you wipe any residue off with detailing spray.

...Are you supposed to wash it afterwards? There shouldn't be any muck left on it after using the clay unless youre polishing up a day later -then I'd re wash it personally.

Last time I clayed my Astral black GT4 I went: Wash, Megs clay bar, Autoglym paint sealer, 2 coats of turtlewax black wax and 1 coat of Autoglym -think it was the black coloured label one. The car came up just stunning. Can't describe the difference it was so dramatic -took a full day to do it by hand though. The Autoglym paint sealer is something I use every few washes on my cars and the shine off it afterwards is amazing.

I don't know, that's why I was asking

I didn't in the end, I just polished straight off. With hindsight, I'd have washed it again (got it all done in one day) but I'll know for next time

yes

always re-wax after you have used a clay bar

i always wash after clay barring to as residue from the clay is left behind.

and also i find a small bit of washing up liquid in my megs wash when i pre wash before claying helps remove the wax coating so i can have better run of the clean paint with clay bar.

Gosh I've been doing it wrong. Thought the whole point of clay bar was that it lifted residue not left any behind. I wondered last time I used it what the difference was between Megs clay bar and the white version of blue tack you used to get was -because tactile they seemed to be the same?

Also, I know I wax more than once but have seen so many times that the previous coat of wax is essentially removed, or partially removed when you wash the car. I guess this makes sence otherwise my cars would have an inch thick residue on them. So waxing a car, then putting another coat of wax on -according to what I've read isn't putting 2 coats on. The second waxing process partially removes the first?
