ditched phoenix power PRO and gone with Apexi GT! *EDIT, now back to PRO*

Post by jimGTS »

thanks to dai21t, i picked this up on sunday from wales (was already in wales for a stag do), and got straight to it and fitted it on monday....

this thing is MILES lighter than the PP.....from what ive found, PP is 75lb, and the Apexi GT is 20lb, so ive saved myself 20-25kg!

am still undecided on the look, but its different i guess.
still works with the oil cooler i recon.

took a few miles of driving, and i really started to notice the difference in sound! alot deeper and more raspy

well see how i do with it. for now, am liking it!
just fancied a change.

i now have Apexi complete from manifold, intake, filter, turbo, downpipe and now exhaust system, lol. basically everything from exhaust side.

before (dont get me wrong looks great and i love this setup!!!!!)

Blimey your car is clean underneath. I see you have the bung as well. How much difference does the bung make on noise and performance?

no idea, dont plan on using it unless for mot or big motorway trips, lol

havent tried it yet, but id imagine will reduce by quite a bit given it goes down to about 1inch bore....lol

Looks good Ive got it myself the bung is wise on the motorway if you plan on cruising over 50mph.... Or youl'll find yourself moving closer to your steering wheel to escape the noise....

I drove from surrey rolling road back to manchester as I took it out for mapping and my ears were ringing for a couple of days

I also ditched my pro aswell as it sat right underneath the bootmount intercooler so picked up an apexi gt but then bought a hks dragger from reddev as I love my hks bits (the apexi will soon be up for sale) good work jim I think it looks spot on :)

No way, what are you doing.... PP PRO all the way, just looks wrong with a single exit like that (looks like someones chopped your exhaust system in half)  :(

Would have to agree with Steve on this, it spoils the symmetry. #-o

much prefer the new apexi Jim, back looks more purposeful now, but i can see how some people think it takes away from the symetrical look ... if you want symetrical just graduate the screamer to a 3 inch pipe out the other side LOL

Have to admit I was in the dilemma regarding symmetry when it came to deciding on swapping the mongoose for my single exit. In the end the weight savings won out over aesthetics for me, lol.

Anyway your car does still look great with the single exit Jim - nice looking exhaust system :thumleft:

Looks great Jim :thumleft: I like the pro and the GT. Both look spot on, the pro does weigh the same as the Titanic

I had one, was well heavy! Apexi is a nice weight saving :thumleft:

As much as you won't want to hear comments like this....they're right. I've gone off twins myself and prefer singles, but on your car with the oil cooler in the middle it just doesn't look right. I think singles can only be pulled off without the box showing and coming out at a big angle.

agreed it dosnt help with the cooler being sat in the centre, why not move it over to the right and have it tucked up a little bit more i think that would look the nuts :thumleft:

i remember seing a vid on youtube of some jap mr2's street racing in japan, and one guy had the apexi on with and intercooler were i described to put the oil cooler looked kinda good

i ditched the phoenix power oil cooler the weekend, and freed up alot of space under the bumper now, think it looks alot better....looks mean.

can see all the pipework now and gives a cleaner look now i think.
with no cooler im running about 6-8 C hotter now, oil temps wise, pretty happy with that considering i was probably running oil temps that are a little low for a road car, so brought them back inline now so am pleased.

Far better. Still preferred the old look, even with the extra weight
