Just as an example, a mate of mine years ago bought a 10 year old Escort Cosworth. It had a bit under 30k miles on the clock and looked utterly stunning, the interior looked almost brand new. During his 7 years of ownership he played a constant game of find and fix the oil/water/fluid leak.
If you think about it, if you had a spare wheel sat in a barn for 20 years, would you feel entirely safe putting it on a car and driving it? Especially if the tyre had been deflated for a long time then pumped up.

That depends on whether the car has been run regularly really doesn't it. Cars of that age on the road don't automatically constantly leak.
If it's sat and hasn't run for years, then yes I'd be very wary of buying it. Even bores can and do rust.

Well this car has done 28 kilometer's in 20 years.

You can run an engine without putting mileage on.

Well yes, but you get the impression it's been stored so very probably not run.

Looking at the condition of the car it's not a mucky barn find is it. Yes the other bits might be a bit dried out, and if I were buying it I'd be worried about them, but it just might be OK anyway.

Thats pretty much brand new if it genuine miles !!! Shame to ever drive that . . . . collectors piece only id say.

Undeniably a gamble though, especially for the astronomical price he's quoting for it.
For a private collector to buy that you'd have to be stupidly wealthy and REALLY love MR2's.
If some one bought it to use it then they're wealthy and stupid really.
