Oil in intercooler pipes (follow up)

After closer inspection, oil is collecting directly under the throttle body, iam not sure if this is down to a weak clip (mikalor) allowing vapour to escape.

Checked dipstick and no oil has been lost in the engine, so it must be an accumulation of vapour, boost seems fine, no hesitation or struggle...

Anyone shed some light on this for me ?

Hi there

I've not seen your first thread.

However, how much oil are we talking? there's 4 litres in there, a few table spoons in the wrong place can make quite a mess.

When my car was having oil retention issues, the throttle body pipe was a good trap for it, and removing the rubber sock would always have some there.

So, where is it coming from?

I would 80% the positive crank ventilation. One test is to remove the oil filler cap and idle, and see if a plume of blue haze comes up?

this indicates gases getting past the pistons, pressurising the crank case, and thus pushing oil out of the block into the intake.

Is it serious?

I don't know. This oil getting into your cylinders could upset the running, if it fouls the plugs or upsets the mixture.

With my car, it was shattered ringlands on cylinder 3, as well as worn turbo seals.

Have you had a compression check done? a gauge is £15 from Halfords - very easy to do, and will give you the state of your piston seals.

Thanks Ian, i'll get myself one of those kits.
The running of the car is great, the oil I found is very minimal, and it looks to be passing from a hose that isnt clamped properly, but i'll look into it when i get more time. It only sprays out when boosting, and also it has a new turbo on it.....

Iam keeping an eye on it day to day and it isnt getting worse
