Power Steering Boss

Post by wayneadam »

Hi,
My power steering cuts out on my G Limited when stationery for to long. I have established that this is because it has an after market Barchetta steering wheel fitted and the boss used does not mary to the power steering movemnt sensor on the column. This is basicaly the the lug that had pluged into the back of the origonal wheel. It acts/acted as both the feed to the air bag and as the movement sensor when the wheel was being turned.
Difficult to explain exactly but has any one else had such a prob?
I have seen boss kits on line but they do not seem any different to the one already on there.
Any body know of the correct way to marry the movement sensor to the an after market boss or perhaps a boss that is spacific to the MR2 mark2?
Ps the way the horn is wired through the boss is also a bodge because I guess the boss is nothing more than a non spacific spacer?
Many thanks..

my understanding this is normal, since the mr2 use a eletronic pump for powersteering,

That is my point...It is normal to cut out when car is stationery and normal to cut back in as soon as the steering wheel is moved.
Mine does not cut back in because I guess the boss is just acting as a spacer and the lug (also the supply to horn) that is to supposed to ingage and rotate and act as the movement sensor is left static.
Have spoken to a few people now that have fitted after market steering wheels/bosses and they have lurned to live with same fault.
It can be re-booted easy enough by turning engine off and on again.
Problem is...living in London I'me stationery to often!
Anyone manage to resolve such a fault?
