[Mk2] [NA] car misfiring then cuts out when press accelerator

I have a 1990 mk2 n/a uk spec mr2

Had full service last month dizzy cap, spark plugs you name it

Recently had massive problems trying to get it started and when i do i go to accelerate the car just splutters and dies on me? if i accelerate gently i can drive it but it is severly underpowered.

My mechanic seems to think fuel pump has gone, is there anything else we can try before that as it is a big/expensive job?

Have you checked the earth connections? Give them a tidy up.

air leak on induction system will do that

problem solved - IGNITION COIL

Was absolutely knackered! new one fitted runs better than ever!
