Help me choose right parts for a cambelt change

Post by bluesmoke »

I'm going to try and get the belt itself from Mr T, but I don't know if they do a kit, and how many tensioners and pulleys I need.

Also, Camskill sell a cambelt tensioner, but also list a hydraulic tensioner. What's the difference? Which should I buy?

Also, should I do the aircon and alternator belts at the same time, as this is all going to be done while transferring the engine to a new shell?

what year is your car?

there is one tensioner, and one pulley.

the tensioner on my rev3 is hydraulic. ie. there is a mini damper and piston built into the tensioner. this piston pushes the tensioner out, thus keeping pressure on the belt.

perhaps earlier tensioners were spring driven?

I would recommend doing the other 2 belts, seeing as they'll be off.

good luck with the crank pulley nut

It's a 93 Rev 3 Turbo.

Camskill list this:
http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.php? ... s606p11115

and this:
http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.php? ... 0s606p2733

both listed as 11/93 onwards.

I will go for the one listed as the hydraulic tensioner based on what you've said above though.
