how much ??

Post by monkeyminger »

this 1 really is very simple.I wrote my car off a few weeks ago and the insurance gets back to me today.Guess how much a rev2 turbo is in there eye's ??? £1200 and thats with a rev 6 front bumper vailside skirts and a few other bits including a fujitsubo legalis r exhaust.
now please be sensible and not put "well i picked 1 up off a bloke who needed the money there and then so i got it for £1000"
i would like to know roughly how much it would have been worth if it was up for sale.oh and it just had the cam belt done with all filters and oil done.its got 110,000 miles on it as well cheers

Having been out in this car i think the offer of £1200 is a joke, how you're supposed to get your car back into the state it was previous to the accident or buy another one in similar condition for that sort of money i'll never know, it's just never going to happen.

Total p1$$ take IMO [-X

Mate insurance companies in general are utter right hand jockeys.
They try and claim they only have to pay you the "book" price, i.e. the Glass guide trade purchase price, you actually have the right to reasonably be able to purchase from a similar supplier to where you purchased the damaged car, i.e. if you bought from a dealer with warranty etc then you need to use prices from a dealer not be forced to replace at an auction.
You have the right to be returned to your pre accident condition (within reason.)
You need to gather as much evidence as possible to refute their £1200, get adds from eBay, pistonheads, here the OC etc.
Be persistent, they will argue the examples you use are not comparable to your car, but print out copies of what you send and write your justification for using each add as an example, i.e. its a year newer but has 5000 more miles or it has not got the rev 6 bumper but has few less miles.. you get the drift.

Stick to your guns and you can get more out of them. They offered my mum £1100 for her old KA in the end the settlement was £3500.

what bothers me is the bloke on the end of the phone blatently lied  [-X .he said there were at least 11 mr2 turbo's which were rev2's which were all around the 1200 mark, and i could only find 2 rev2 and they sure as hell were not £1200 they are starting at £1800 and going steeply up.oh and he had a pop saying mine was high milege at 110,000 miles #-o :!:

Mate their job is to get you to accept as small a settlement figure as possible... It’s your job to prove to them that they are talking out their pooper

Another top tip... If they send you a cheque as part settlement DO NOT bank it, by doing that you accept their offer. They lied to me when my Mk1 was destroyed, said that the cheque was an interim settlement, and that we could negotiate further...

Why are we being forced to pay for this attempted extortion when a value could so easily be agreed at each renewal... like their premium has to. It's a simple bit of banking legislation that would help to put a stop to rip off Britain but guess how much tax/income the insurance/banking industry makes the powers that be. How many businessmen cough up donations or loans to political powers to ensure we remain a pickpocketed nation. And when their massive profits turn to losses who's pocket is lighter?
It's not fair mate but you will have to go through the process of gathering evidence, collating proofs, printing photographs etc etc, waiting inconveniently immobile and arguing whilst your phone bill goes up to get what you have already paid for. Keep at it though till your satisfied, I think that's the least I'm entitled to in any business transaction... and maybe ask for examples of recently paid for cars from members here perhaps in a new thread?
The thing that grates with me most is renewal time when they give you their quote, you shop around and waste your time getting proof you can get it cheaper.. bombarded with parrots on seafairers, blue elephants and singing fat men then they match it! Why not just be forced to give their best figure at the start... I know some will be stupid or naive and pay their first quote but why should they for something that's compulsory? These quotes are then all available through a compulsory comparison website.
There are so many driving now not bothering with insurance, tax and all the rest. I really do feel something should be done to reward those who accept their responsibilities and pay for their privileges and at the very least protect them from this sort of piracy.
Good luck with it fella.
