[Mk2] [Turbo] LSD problem?

Post by jaymdee »

How do you know if the LSD has failed? I've got a strange handling problem, which has persisted despite having new TRD bushes, track rod ends, coilovers and different wheels/tyres

Basically the back end is squirming all over the place when putting power on or off and is worse when turning the steering wheel at the same time. There's a bit of play in the steering rack, which I'm going to look at anyway.

Any advice before I spend ££££'s

cheers

Checked ball joints?
Maybe Alignment?
Coilover damping totally different on different sides?
Inner trackrod ends causing play?
Usually when a stock diff fails it just behaves like an open diff eg car drives fine but one wheel will spin up before other under different driving conditions. This is why Quigon is asking bout leaving 11s/doughnuts

jack the back end up so wheels clear the floor and see if both wheels turn when you turn one of the rear wheels this will let you know if the lsd has failed with out looking like a hooligian

Thanks guys - will investigate more tomorrow. With LSD, should one wheel spin the opposite way to the other?

Checked ALL the suspension twice. Tried with several different sets of shocks/springs and coilovers, different wheels and tyres.

Car washes around badly in corners and front end does not feel connected to the back  A real 'oh sh*t' moment at every slight bend in the road

If you have changed suspension parts, you really need to get the alinement checked and adjusted, as this can mess the handling up.
