Spigot Rings ??? Anyone had any success with them ??? ALL SORTED NOW !

Post by FASTFORD »

Just upgraded to 17" wheels on my Rev5 MR2 and since ive had some wheel wobble at motorway speeds 70+

Just had the tracking done and the balancing on all tyres and its still there , someone mentioned spigot rings so ive ordered some off ebay which im hoping to fit this weekend.

Just wondering if anyone else has had a simlair problem and any success with the spigot rings ? :thumleft:

I got wheels from POTN and they were 73mm bore but they included spigot rings to go from 60->73. Seems to be fine - no noticeable wobble.

Yep you'll be needing spiggot rings! I had a set made up at a machine shop for a perfect fit but i'm sure the ones off ebay will be better than nothing!

I also had a set of spigot rings for mine from ebay.

£12 in total. Were 68mm ones.

Spiggot rings are pretty much what keeps your wheels central if youre fitting wheels with different bores to your hubs although the bolting force applied has allot to deal with it.

So in answer to the question -yes they're pretty much essential. When I order wheels I always make sure they have rings if they've not got the right bores.

driven with a set of wheels with and without spigots. didnt notice any difference. ive been told tapered nuts adequately centre the wheel so the spigot doesnt do anything. the spigot will reduce the shear forces on the studs. although ive not seen anyone say theyve had studs fail.

You should'nt rely on the stunds alone as they can shear, spigot rings are a must really if fitting bigger bore wheels than 60.1

yeah ive heard a few scare storys of wheels sheering off because of ill fitted wheels.

Was going to fit my spigots yesterday but the garage has torqued the nuts up so tight I cant remove them with my poxy small cross brace. Going down there today to have them fit it - and check tracking and balancing at the same time.

Hopefully itll cure it the wheel wobble at 70mph

Ok all done and dusted !

Couple of things :

Spigot rings in place

and the fella doing the job (same one as before) said the equipment had been recalibrated since the first time - rechecking the balancing and it was out 20g on one front wheel and 10g on the other 3 !

So might pay for anyone having there balancing done - ask when the equipment was recalibrated.

Took it for a little jaunt on the way home - spot on flawless :D

Couldnt be more happy ! :D
