Exhaust differences

Post by Darth »

I was wondering if some knowledgeable sort could breifly tell me the difference/similarity between revs/years MK2 N/A exhaust systems.

I need to replace my CAT and i have a feeling that when i go to remove it from the back box they will be forever rusted together so will actually need to replace both.

I think that being a 1993 car the CAT i need is a 430mm?
I believe the rev 1s used a 320mm?
Is the difference in length from the mid section/layout or the back box? i.e. Are the back boxes the same on all NAs?

Any major differences between import and UK cars. Basically what are exhaust options of other revs to fit on a rev2 N/A UK car??

Why is it seemingly impossible to find a new pattern back box for a rev 2> MKII? Can find one for Mk1, can find one for Rev1, plenty for Mk3's. Ok i can find stainless /performance alternatives but when the whole car is worth a grand tops then i will be damned if i am gonna spend £300+ on one section of exhaust!

Am i just looking in the wrong places? Gonna phone Kwik Fit/National type places and Toyota today but have a feeling that will be a comedy call!

Try eBay or one of the breakers on this site. I believe all N/A rear exhausts are the same. I actually got a rear box from a Rev 2 3S-FE engined car (economy spec 2.0L engine), and fitted fine and works well with my Rev 4 3S-GE car. So I suspect anything N/A and mk2 will work..

Finally a reply! :D So you would reckon that the different length of the cat is accounted for from the front section of the exhaust being different?

Yep, pretty sure it's the cat or the downpipe section which is different - I already had a cat from a Rev 4, so the rear section bolted up..

Mmm, that eBay effort looks a bit naff.. Surely there will be a few used n/a exhausts on eBay?? I picked mine up for £20, but budget up to £40 for a decent used one. Is there not someone in the For Sale section selling a Rev 5 n/a exhaust?

Finally a reply! [Very Happy]
...just one day aftre you posted as well!!

To be honest I met some MR2 folk at a meet once and one (reptable) person said they were quoted £1,500 from local Toyota for a stock carbon steel back box so hardly surprising when you can pick up a stainless one for the £300 mark why so may folk fit them really.

your right about difference in cat sizes pic ive adde shows one on left is rev 2 and one on right is rev 1, when i bought my blueflame stainless exhaust it came with a very good adjustable decat pipe which will fit both cats very handy indeed, as said load of breakers about and put up a wanted post im sure one will turn up, mine started as a £1200 cheap car 3 years later and £2400 spent its my money pit, still mainly spent on mods not maintence though good old toyota's. :thumleft: :thumleft: :thumleft:
