ABS

Post by rickymcg »

Hi Chaps

Car went for MOT tonight but didnt make it through ABS light on the dash wasn't coming on and the rear sensor wires have been removed #-o don't know what the pervious owner was thinking. Anyway is it a big job to replace the sensors and will any rev2 ones fit or are turbo rev 2 ones different ?

Cheers :thumleft: \

The reason someone's taken them off is most likely that they broke when they had to remove them for some reason (usually replacing wheel bearings). New ones can be quite pricey.

It's not really a big deal to put new ones in, but you have to be really careful handling the sensors because they're quite fragile. Google for 'mr2 abs sensor' -- one of the first hits is a thorough guide for replacing them.

As far as I can see the parts are the same for the NA and Turbo cars -- the part numbers do seem to match. Just make sure you still do have the cable ends + connectors in the engine bay.

Hi chaps

Dam no luck where would I get cheap Sensor ? Or is everywhere gonna be 140 per sensor please say there are cheaper places as that seems a bit of a rip off ?

Is working ABS a requirement for MOT? I thought it was done on braking 'power' (for want of a better word).

I think i can bluff it as long as I can get my ABS dash light to function correctly as in turns off after 3 seconds once engine is started. however he noticed the sensors on the rear hubs had been removed so i might have to attach a suitable bit of cable and fitting to bluff it then I can source sensors at a later stage.

My mate has just broken his old Mk2 Rev 2 N/a. I know he's got rid of most of the panels and the stripped down shell but we did take the engine out (the engine is completely dead) with the idea that he'd sell on all the sensors. If you think his might work for you pm me and i'll get in touch with him. He is a member on here but i've no idea what his username is...
