[Mk2] [Turbo] New suspension fitted

Post by dobbar »

I\'ve just finished fitting new suspension all round, the APEX springs I fitted have the coils more tightly wound at the bottom for the rears and vice versa for the front - does this sound right ? ( The ground flat edge of the spring sits towards the top of the strut in both cases)

Hi there

On first thought I would have expected the closer coils to be at the top

but

the lower spring cups (on the strut) have a cut out to accept the end of the lower spring.

so it must be right for the flattened ends to be at the top (where there's a rubber ring I believe)

and despite the suspension movement being from the bottom, the spring's tension will decide where it absorbs the moveement anyway

I asked this because the springs coils are clanking on certain bumps, I\'ve since found out however that this appears to be normal and they will supply a sleeve to fit around the spring if you suffer this problem.

closer coils should be at the top. I'd install them correct way round and make sure the spring is seated in the locating notch on the cup of the shock casing

They\'re installed correctly if using the ground edge of the spring as a reference, however this means the more tightly wound part of the spring is opposite front to back.

If you look at a picture of the springs (APEX) you\'ll see what I mean.

Cheers.
