[Mk2] [Generic] indicator/wiper stalks

Post by korean »

A really stoopid question, but hey ho.

having to drive several vehicles a week, the indicators/wipers etc on my MR2 are basically on the wrong side.

has anyone fitted a different stalk set off anything else to alter then?

cheers

Maybe it's me but i think Toyota got it right by putting them that way round, and everyone else has them on the wrong side.

You might turn on the wipers when turning off , or turn on the indicators when it starts raining. But it only happens once when you first jump into it and rest of the time you're fine.

I'm sure it can be done, but would be a fair amount of work for a little niggle.

Indicator on the wrong side

Post by Paul Curtis »

Like you I drove several cars per week and the MR2 was the only one with the "wrong" way by European standards for the indicators.

However cars supplied to USA and Europe have the indicator on the left and wiper on right.

I purchased a indicator /wiper set from Canada with cruise control as well as tilt and a top cover from Europe.

Small mod reqd to get top of cowl to fit Japanese lower, should have purchased the pair. All fitted together but cruise does not work as one of the cbles needs to be switched around.

I have both, a LHD and RHD.

On both cars the indicator is at the door-side.

I thought this was a normal position, (sure I mix them up when driving other cars), but after reading this, even some RHD cars got the indicator on the gearknob side??

Indicator on MR2 Mk2

Post by Paul Curtis »

I think the member RenOW has answered the question. As he has both a left and right hand drive car he can confirm that in a right hand drive car the indicator is operated by his right hand and for the left hand car the indicator is operated by his left hand.
All one needs to do is to convert the wiper/indicators are obtain a set from a left hand drive car. Also the binnicale are required as the travel on a indicator swith is greater than a wiper.
If the car does not have cruise control it is a simple mod, obtaining a set with cruise makes it harder.
