[Mk2] [NA] Mr2 3s-fe flat spot between 2500 and 3000 revs please help

Post by Dale Ashdown »

hello my Mr2 3s-fe has a flat spot between 2500 and 3000 revs. I have tried the basics like new spark plugs and ht leads plus I have given the distributer a good clean out but the problem is still there. The car pulls and goes fine above 3k and below 2.5k. The only mods to the engine are an exhaust back box and a k&n cone air filter. I bourght the car like this and I was wondering if the k&n may have anything to do with this.
Any ideas or advise would be much appreciated.

Hi,
I've just bought a 3s-fe. Changed the spark plugs, air filter and oil change. The car seems to have flat power curve upto about 3k, then pulls after that. Not sure if this is normal?

I'd suggest timing out a tooth in both cases. Typically this leads to a very low amount of torque at the bottom end. The 3s-fe, like the ge & gte, and even though there is only one cam cog to worry about, is incredibly easy to get a tooth out when the cambelt is changed.

Easily checked & fixed.

Have been getting same problem. But only in the wet.
engine dies 2500 - 3000rpm, but clears on full throttle or after 3000rpm.
Not noticeable in the dry.

Therefore would it still be timing jump ?

how difficult and where can i find how to check timing ?

timing marks / strobe light ?
