[Mk2] [Turbo] Blow off valve on a REV3 - opinions?

Post by dannyhall »

Hey, i'm toying with the idea of chaving my car up and investing in a blow off valve. However, I have heard that blow off valves are not worth the hassle, leaking boost, misfire etc. But is that on the rev1/2's only? Or do the rev3's not like them either?

Just would like some fors and against from people who've had the experience of adding a bov to their tubby?

I'm thinking this blow off valve btw;

Would I need an adapter plate for this bov? If so, any good sources to get one from?

Any help much appreciated

Thanks
Dan

So a aftermarket bov on a rev3 is ok? No issues with losing boost etc on a rev3?

Yeah i've heard good things about the hks bov, ive seen it on ebay for £250 posted so a little abit cheaper..

No problem on a rev3 :thumleft:

But if your stock bov is in good condition, you don't really need a aftermarket one.

It's only looks/brands/sound. And €€ ofcourse.

I've also got a HKS SSQ on my rev 3. It goes PPPPSSSSTTT when it dumps.

Does sound a bit chavy llike all dump valves but it's down to your tatse.

In my opinion it was the best choice.

Cheers guys I got a HKS the other day, ebay £240 for a brand new HKS SSQV and sw20 fitting kit. Had to modify the bracket though as it wouldn't secure correctly but all good.

Havent had full boost yet but does seem to hold it quite well. Plus my inner child loves it!!

Thanks for the help

You don't see anything exotic (Porsche Turbo's etc) with dump valves....

You don't see many exotics that have been modified.

Cheers for the offer Jeff however I already purchased a HKS blow off valve :)

Lol but it would be just weird to have a Porsche turbo with a BOV! But a old skool japanese car can pull it off...

Quite happy with the HKS though, im getting roughly 25 miles less to a full tank though :(

That would probably be because you are ragging it more to get it to make a noise I would of thought.......
