A friend told me that strokers weren't able to rev too high. Is this true? What makes it dangerous to rev too high?

Increasing the stroke means that you are increasing the distance the pistons are moving up and down in the block...so yes- increasing the stroke does make it harder for the engine to rev as fast because the pistons have to move further for each engine revolution.

The longer the stroke of an engine, the lower the RPMs are gonna be because the piston needs to travel further which means it has to move faster which, in turn, means there are bigger forces exerted on components every time it comes to a stop and changes direction.

Its an engine i'd like to build down the line! Then strap a big turbo on (42rish size) and give it more of a power band with revving it out higher on the square motor

The yanks are having great success using the 5s blocks, some circa 1000hp without cracking, then the full on drag cars which must be 1300+ hp.

Theres a celica thats running a 2.4l and 800+ whp using a 5s block in the states, which must be 1000~ hp at the fly in a celica.

IIRC the 5sGTE is the fastest 4cyl in the world at the minute on the strip, so it has great potential.

2.4l? What - is that a stroked 5S then? I'd love to see the torque curve on that beast!! What crank do they use?

Yep- short stroking has always been something I'd like to try...talking about it has really wet my appetite...an MR2 that sounds like an F1 car

I was going to look at short stroking a 3S, but the water ways are too close to the block deck- so there is no room to deck the hell out of the block to allow a shortened stroke.

Gonna have to do some serious research on the 5S blocks- I've got some friends state side who can send stuff over for me...shame freight costs are so damn high. Might have to look at bringing a few blocks over at once, or maybe even getting enough bits together to fill a container and split the shipping costs...but that's a LOT of stuff!!
