Retract mirrors to alarm.

Post by jsl1uk »

Hi, I have searched.
I am having a toad alarm fitted but I want the mirrors to retract when the alarm is locked & open when unlocked.
I have spoken to the installer & he says it is to hard?????
But I remember reading on 1 of the posts somewhere.
Could somebody tell me which wires please....

Regards jsl1uk. :(

Well, the mirror retract is on a push-button so as long as your alarm has a momentary (as opposed to latching) output there should be some way to make it work, even if you need to fit a relay into the circuit to replicate the function of the switch.

Must say, though, I'm not sure it's worth the effort of doing.

Sure, it might be nice to have the mirrors retract when you lock the car but I can imagine lots of situations where you'd unlock the car, the mirrors would extend and then you'd get into the car and immediately have to retract them again so you can get out of a tight parking space or garage etc.

It's trivial to do and doesn't involve the alarm at all. You simply link the pink wire that goes into the mirror control unit to 2 wires in a central locking connector near the rear of the door. You have to use diodes so that your doors don't lock and unlock when you press the retract button, and you also end up with a setup whereby if you press the retract button and then lock the door the mirrors will unfold again.

The thing that I find annoying about the retractor mirrors is that as standard the button does nothing without ignition power, as the mirror and window controller circuits are powered from ignition live not constant live. I am forever forgetting this and having to put the key back in to retract them!
