i absolutely love the look of your car and it has the power to back it up.

i have the same fear of this happening when i actually get the car ive been pineing for for years now, an rx7.

ive dont the pour money in to a car before it hurts alot ive poured 25k in to a 205 gti that has no love at the min as i just cant bear to put anymore money in to it at the moment, but mine looks like its worth about £80 scrap value now.

good luck with your future plans and hope it works out well

I've pretty much grown out of modding now. Used to spend a fair amount on old Fiesta's and the first MR2 I had but gradually realised that it's a waste of money. I put about £1k on a credit card for mods and it took ages to pay off. Better to either buy already modded or just buy a nice car which is good 'straight out of the box'.

In the grande scheme of things if you buy another car.. how much is it going to cost to get it to the same power as what you got now?

I think my mr2 will rot before i sell it. For what its worth to what it gives me in enjoyment it just doesn't make sense to sell. I drive my girlfirends 1.2 8v clio loads and when i jump in my mr2 i realise that for the money its such a great powerful car.

How many people have a mr2 like yours with the power? not many. Its like marriage. You'll question it but its worth it... hahahaha :thumleft:

I agree with the 'against' boys above. At the end of the day only you (and Andy F) can decide what to do with your cars but I also think its crazy spending that much oney, blood, sweat adn tears on a vehicle and then selling it. Even worse, not letting your piece of art liveing on, instead breaking it back up again. Why build it then unbuild it? Huh!

Personally I think you need to just slap yourself in the face and say, 'right, thats it, its a complete project to be enjoyed'. Stop spending money on it. Just insure, tax, put petrol in and drive, drive , drive. If you still have that buying bug then there's ahigh chance you'll have start looking at your next ride the same way and you'll be back at square one only now you haev nothing to show for £42500 (if you were to sell it complete).

I was almost happy with mine before the silly old codger ploughed into it. All I wanted was a new pair of front seats and a cosmetic touchup and I was thinking of that as a complete project. I was already thinking exactly what I've said above. Now stop with this and just enjoy it. Was already starting to save for another car for another project. (RX7?)

Best thing mate is put it in storage for a bit, see how you feel after two months. If you still want it you'll be just in time for summer. I promise it'll scare the crap out of you after the absence.

I know it not really my business but I hope you keep it or at the very least, someone buys it complete. A few haev said buying ready modified is the best way. Granted, but if they keep getting broken then there'll be nothing out there but a bunch of cars with stage 1 mods.

My 2p worth.

Well, the old girl has been sold in one piece :D I was gutted to watch it drive away, but happy it's going to a good home. Bloody thing decided to start missfiring, but found the dizzy and leads have got damp. I'm sure it'll be fine on the long journey back.

Still gutted.... #-o

Ruddy hell, that was quick !!

Good move I think chris since all your priorities will be now going somewhere else !

I know where chris is coming from ...I look at the MR2 as an old, rattle box but its I still get a few kicks from. In reality though, I'm sick of noise, harshness... its probably a sign of getting old !!

I still drive mine everyday, and will still hang on to it as its my toy...but taking the girl out / family, going to formal places...it simply sits on the drive ! :thumleft:

Jag XJR
Merc E55 / E63
M5 V10 - Thirsty I can tell you...

Realistically, all high running costs cars ( not sensible ), but all a bit special.

Couple of my friends have 535D's / 530D's.. they're brilliant !! Except when it snows !

Maybe the problem is you drive it every day.
I used to drive my last rev1 everyday while doing 20k a year in her, now I could not think of anything worse than having to drive the noisy bumpy car every day to work and back through rush hour traffic; my Mondeo is quiet and comfy, easy to drive, cheap to run and I’m not worried about where I park her . The 2 just stays as a weekend toy to put a smile on my face.

Having to drive the mr2 everyday would make me fall out of love with her, also my back would probably give up, but come Saturday morning, roof off and out to the country roads.

......and thats the point folks, one especially applicable to a car like Chris'. The MR2 is the 'SPORTS CAR'. Its not meant to be a uber comfortable cruiser. If you want that go buy a Mondeo or Beemer and anything inbetween. Some enjoys the constant ride and some do not.

JJ, good to hear from you. Shame to hear about your slight lack of faith my friend.

What I love about the MR2 is debadge it, polish it up, (resist stick anything tacky or silly on it) and it catches people's attention all day long with people thinking it's related to all kinds of exotica.

Lol !! Bobby, nice to hear from you, I didn't catch up on the outcome of yours though.... ??!

No lack of faith bobster, just telling it how it is... the cars an old goat ! Its a lot more nimble and performs harder than the M5... just have to face facts that modern big cars give you that comfort factor, which i'm more inclined to prefer these days...

I put poly mounts on the engine, strapped a big turbo and noisy exhaust to mine, stuck it on coilovers.. in a nutshell.. blame only one person here... because mines borderline hardcore, leave a stocker alone, and these above factors wont even come into it !!

Dont get me wrong, the car on the drive this week is the M5 since the suns been out !
