Shall I sell Rocky?

Post by Fred_Bear »

Because of a bad back part of me says sell Rocky (yes my MKII rev2 has got a name, don't all cars?), but part says it is such bloody good fun when I can drive it that it is worth just keeping for regular polishing and occasional driving. It is away on holiday for the bank holiday weekend having a replacement clutch master cylinder fitted (when the mechanic gets back from snow boarding).

I have even added a poll which along with this post shows I really must get a life!

I am not even sure of a price (but I did think about £1,200), I know it has got a Blitz dump valve, lightened fly wheel thing, cold running plugs, flow pipe thing, etc. Below is the ebay advert I keep delaying putting on, what do you think about a price? Or should I just keep Rocky because at my age I will not get an exciting ride anywhere else?

I am selling my MR2 MKII turbo. It has Stage I 17'' alloys with good tyres, a new clutch about a year ago, and a Blitz dump valve (that is my mechanical knowledge exhausted). The photographs show the condition, there is no rust or rot, no smoke, or funny noises. Was my son in laws until he needed something for regular commuting, then my son until he got a girlfriend who did not like it, now me who loves it but has a bad back (before I got the car, not because of it).

Bad things:

* Front and wing are silver replacements after a slow speed knock against a raised light island thing so they could do with spraying,
* It has track springs and short shocks on it which are not to my liking (but there is a set of standard road springs for it as well),
* One wheel has some knocks and I would have eventually replaced it,
* Power steering light makes a regular appearance, then hides for a while, so this needs looking at,
* Clutch was bought brand new off ebay and fitted by a local mechanic so no receipts etc (but it is almost new),
* I started to do the metal bits under the bonnet with back to black rust stuff (just surface rusting on a few bits, see photo) and it needs finishing off.

Good things:

* Starts first time,
* Inside is very clean with no damage to interior or seats,
* Has a turbo timer that I do not know how to use,
* Has a Blitz dump valve (fitted before I got it),
* Goes like s**t,
* Clifford alarm/immobiliser (I only use the immobiliser bit as it knows I am scared and the alarm goes off if I so much as look at it),
* Has had more polishing done to it by me than driving.

If you have a bad back, have you thought about some softer suspension for the car to make the ride more favourable?

It depends how much you like the car really :thumleft:

Glad to see everyone says to keep it. If you want i have a black front wing that has just come off my car in good nick, just a slight indent on top of wheel arch, that will make her look better!!

That is my daughters, and I am not sure how much it would cost to get the same performance as from the MR2. Someone suggested a Golf GTI but that is just not the same as being in the MR2, it is the whole look, feel, and fun that I love the MR2 for.
