Now that graph looks a whole lot better. Would be nice to get the higher gears a bit closer but 1-3rd seem spot on. It's only really 5th and 6th that are at the intergalactic end of the scale.

Looking very nice, i love the fact you put so much thort and effort into each part and make things look like they belong instead of just dropping a V8 in.

Yes i agree Lauren, 4th looks to be a monstrous gear too, and i still have my doubts it will ever see anything post 180mph (i'm not into top end speed at all, boring!) and certainly i really won't be driving it if it is capable of 200mph! No ta! =; . The maths is interesting to look at though.

Hey thanks, for me it is all about the finished article rather than just prooving it can be done, i'd like this to be a semi decent car after all of the money, time and effort, but who knows, it could handle like a whale!

Today i got the heads torqued down, and the cams refitted... all a bit alien to me working on Audi stuff after so many years of Toyota engines but they are beautifully engineered. My cam covers are also painted, i've gone for a stock Toyota Mk2 shade...

It was an even better Monday!

Today was spent detailing more engine parts and fitting more new gaskets/seals.

I have spent so much time detailing now that i have decided to leave the plastic engine covers off permanently.

If you look carefully you can see my homemade camshaft locking tools in the rear shots, i am just waiting for my modified crank pulley to come back (new trigger set up) and the timing belt can go back on for good.

I have started work on the transmission tunnel, galvanised plates welded in and seam sealed, this area is what's left of my boot, so i will paint it and carpet it out.

The big question is.........

Will your sandwiches in the boot be hotter or cooler than the std AW11

Sandwiches are so last decade, toasties are the future! :D

I actually have a cunning plan for my exhaust area to give it every chance of staying cool. I am boxing around the silencer with aluminium, heatwrapping the can as much as possible, then modifying the underside of the bootlid so that it has a perfect new sealing edge onto my "new" boot wall top edge. The box surrounding the silencer will also have heatproof mat on it.

Then i am grafting two rows of Mk2 NA engine lid vents across the boot lid exactly where the exhaust "box" is. The theory being the air travelling through the bay catches in the exhaust box and drags most of the heat out of the boot lid grills. That should work, well i don't have much other option so let's see :D

The end date is unknown, still a lot to do but it i am making good progress.

I addressed the exhaust "box" venting today, the plan is to seal what boot/trunk i have left off completely from the engine bay and provide the exhaust area with lots of venting, so lots of cold air in and hot air out.

I have grafted in some Mk2 NA engine lid vents directly above the exhaust box area, and i will be making a new sealing surface for the rubber trim that will go around the edge of the box.... this still needs a lot of work but you can see what i am trying to do.

The man is god when it comes to engineering work like this.

Also i got my timing belt fitted and aligned, they are tricky belts to fit due to the floating cam pulleys with no keyway!
