Having a dillema.. I'm just bored..What to do?

Post by Chris »

As some of you know, I have been toying with the idea of getting rid of my MR2 for a while. I tried to sell it last year, but failed. Then had a rough patch with the finances with baby on the way etc etc.

I managed to save my car by taking out a bank loan. Happy days. However, I've been using the car again, and firstly fell back in love with it again. I spent even more money (added a little extra on loan #-o ) and bought a Willwood brake kit, white Work Emotions and had another exhaust built. Now though.....I'm just bored. I don't want to get rid of it, but don't really get the same buzz from it anymore. It's like a girlfriend you love, but don't want anymore cos she's got lazy in bed

I just don't think I want an MR2 anymore. Nothing floats my boat so it's not like I've seen a new model or owt like that.

Anyone else feel like this? At the moment I just don't want it anymore. I know that if I keep it, I'll just keep spending on it, but if I get rid I'll miss it. What to do!!!

Had this one 8 years, and had 2 others before this. So had MR2's for 12 years

I keep wanting to do stuff to it, but what's the point? Like you say, what more can be done??

Yeah, spoke about this to Andy earlier. I'm a little bored of drag racing too. Plus, if it did let go...I'd prob just not bother fixing it. The passion just doesn't seem to be there anymore matey. I was thinking of un modding it.....

Problem is you never miss them till there gone! Looks like you got a really well sorted car there. How bout just driving it and enjoying it rather than spend any more cash on? Personally I wouldnt get into debt over a motor but its entirely up to you, I aint judging etc. Id say keep if you havent seen anything else your lusting over, she is a looker!

 I can't help myself mate. I remortgaged my house twice....It owes me around £50k. I use it alot, it's not like It's just a show piece/drag car. Not many 600plus bhp cars get used to go back and forward to work in :thumleft:

lol Yeah I realised when I was typing I didnt really believe myself, just kinded sounded the sensible thing. You tried selling rear clip and going back to mildly modded? and perhaps giving your missus your credit card :oldtongue:

You had it down the strip with the new power?

If it lets go, its not gonna be much to rebuild as your only running forged pistons arent you?

It's easy to spend that kind of money over 8 years mate. 2x forged engines, god knows how many turbo kits, bodykits, wheels, etc etc. It's never ending. Ask anyone with a big power car. It does not come cheap and never happens on the first build....

I know it's not got much in the engine greeny if it let go. But, I just don't think I'd bother. Not took it up strip mate. It's weird, all I wanted was to build a fast MR2, now I don't even like driving it. Don't get me wrong, it's fooking fast, Simon reckons it'll do 10's easy. But I don't care...

Had mine for 8 years, converted to rev 3 turbo engine and lots of chassis improvements. Recently been feeling like you and started looking at TVR's. When I posted up on a TVR club and showed pics of the car they said not to sell it as I would regret it........so, I have left it at the mother-in-laws for 3 weeks and I am gagging to get it back now.

Can see why you're feeling a bit bored with the car. I like to have a change now and then. I still miss my old MR2 turbo at times despite the S2000 being just as much fun. Sometimes it's good to try owning other cars though for the experience. Agreed you should try driving a bog standard shopping trolley 1.2 or something for a couple of weeks then when you drive it again it will feel brilliant.

I know exactly how you feel, my last car (not an MR2) I poured and absolute shed load of serious money into. However I realised it was a time of change and I'd out grown it.

I was absolutely gutted the next following days when it sold. But glade now nearly 2 years later as it was such a big money bin.

Sorry guys! Its just wether you can afford to lose all the money that you've spent on it.

I learnt second time round I brought one pre modified, although it lacks the fun of completing the job your self.

Yeah, it's hard to explain, but grown out of it is probably about right. I've got other things in life I want to do aswell. A constant money pit a remortgage is just not as fun as it used to be
