My Mk2 Rev 2 Turbo - Restoring to former glory.

Post by Orrin »

Hi all,

Checking in for a few waves.

I'm named Orrin, yes that's my real name. Im 23, from Blackpool, been an utter petrol head since I was about 12 believe it or not, my Brother who is double my age was always a big fan of Fords and it sort of rubbed off on me.

Since passing my test in 2004 I've had all manners of Escort & Fiesta RS turbo's, 2 x Peugeot 106 GTI, a Mk1 VW Golf GTI, Mk2 VW Golf GTI, Seat Ibiza FR, Mk3 VW Golf GTI, E30 BMW's galore, the list goes on.. anyway;

Picked my Turbo up on 14/03/10 at 4pm and broke it at 8pm. Fantastic! Something simple though which is good news, the knock sensor needs replacing, 'Bobby' from the forum has thrown me a line and sorted me with a GM knock sensor which I really appreciate.
The other thing that went wrong was that the Driveshaft bolts worked loose from the 'Box, I had to replace all bolts and washers for peace of mind. Luckily I'm friendly with the parts manager at Mr. T and I got that lot for £50 less than list price.

The spec of it is:

Fidanza flywheel
Low temp stat
Fensport fc defender
Magnecor HT leads
Samco hosing throughout
Cooling system recently replaced throughout
Crystal front indicators
Yellow Bilstein shocks
Up-rated springs
Manual boost controller
Mongoose rear section with blitz middle and gutted cat.
Rev 3 rear lights and centre panel
Rev 3 gearbox and LSD
CT20 Turbo
Berk intercooler with hard piping
De-limited
De-tobleroned
rear strut brace
261.9bhp
17" 8 & 9 staggered ET OZ alloys (unsure on model)

Apparently, this car is pretty well known, not sure wether that's true or not but I'm sure I'll find out?? The last 3 are 'SOY'..

So, some pictures...

And one for the arty collection..

The car is a little rough around the edges, from what I can see. It seems as though maybe the owner before the fella I got it from was a little careless maybe? If it's anyone from here then I mean no offense. Moral of the story is, "if you can't afford to run a car, don't buy one".

My plans initially are:

-Get to the bottom of the actual spec

-Full respray & repair of the rear sills, remove them fri88ing skirts.

-Replace any missing interior bits (Clips, screws & cigarette lighter)

-Replace a few bits on the exterior (Headlight glass, crystal indicators need to go)

-New seats (Stock leathers or some Bride bucket's, as yet undecided)

-Trim the headliner and rear console

-Replace every bit of speaker wiring & speakers, also needs a new aerial

-Some good rubber all round, T1R's preferably

-Polybush the front and replace rear strut mounts

-Brake upgrade, for now I'm going to do braideds and some proper fluid

-Replace piggy back unit with either Power FC or a Link unit

-AVCR

-Oil press, Oil temp & boost gauges on the pillar

-Aim for 300 bhp, which I believe isn't too difficult?

Hope you'll all go easy on me and I appreciate any advice I get from you lot. I'm sure I'll have a LOT of questions to ask

Just waiting for the sun to come out now so I can get used to it! There's no chance I'm going out in the rain!

Thanks, Orrin.

Car looks great mate! :thumleft:

I normally don't like those side skirts, but they look so much better with the standard bumpers like you have there! Works really well

Nice camera work too :D

Wicked! Cheers for the info bud!

Thanks for all the comments fella's I appreciate them.

Got my knock sensor replaced on Saturday. Car is a lot better now, naturally. However I'm still getting a bit of hesitation.. Could it be detecting knock still or something else? There is a bit of a flatspot also :-#

could be a fault arround your CAT, check the sensors (lamba) and if its an aftermarket one check there are no cracks. i got a crack in my downpipe right on the bend near the lamba sensor and it sometimes hesitated as the sensor was getting unusaul readings
