Re: Spare Engine connectors near alternator

Post by mister2mk1 »

Okay - apologies that this has now re-surfaced but I am still experiencing the 2 dash lights (Battery and Engine fan - both RED)

To summarise to date I have done the following:

Replaced Battery
Replaced with Brand new Alternator (after trying several second hand units)
Replaced the Ambients air temp sensor
Confirmed that Engine bay fan works by bridging
No ECU error codes
Checked all 3 pins on alternator clip and get the above suggested voltage.
Checked Charge fuse
Ran wire as suggested by Jimi (above) from back of alt plug to charge fuse....

Non of the above has fixed and other than taking to an auto electrician I believe I have exhausted all options........

Can anyone offer any final possible solutions??

One thought from me - Can the earthing strap that is part of the engine loom that bolts to the inlet manifold have a bearing here???

Regards and thanks to all who have helped

Check the 10A ENGINE fuse, next to the charge fuse.

Checked engine fuse all okay -

I have removed the 2 10mm bolts that hold the loom under the injector rail - cleaned the bolts and connectors and surface on inlet manifold....

Still no joy!!!

Is anyone local to you that will let you swap over your engine loom with theirs just to test it?

You may have a break in the wire somewhere.

Check continuity between alternator charge terminal and battery positive connector.

...If you haven't already,

and keep that top of p4 list updated with all your tests, we'll get it sussed :thumleft:

Are there any earths behind the dash?

No, according to my wiring diagram.

The alternator itself should be grounded!

Check continuity between alternator casing and battery negative.

IIRC yes, but very small minor ones from the loom to the cross beam

Not a fault on the dash is it? :-k Seems like you've checked everything else that's to be checked.

Was this with engine on or engine off? Steve, do you have a multimeter that can measure continuity/ohms?

With engine off -

Yes I do have a multi meter - not the best with it though!

Have you checked the continuity of the alternator wires to their respective terminal points to see if the wire somewhere has been snagged.
