New site design - what do ya think?

Post by SamUK »

Im crap at graphic design but this is my latest attempt.

2 of the links in my portfolio dont load at the moment (transferring domains) so i know about that but im just wondering what people think.

The colour scheme might be a bit marmite. #-o

It's a nice simple site mate...and does it's job fine! The colours are a little bland, but i like how you've injected some colour via the orange text.

I'd try to make the background gradient slightly more smoother, and not use such a dark blue at the very top.

Nice work though :thumleft:

(P.S. At least it's XHTML & CSS Valid...it's amazing how many sites still don't comply to the standards  :D)

Your target="_blank" isn't working for the shift eye link for some reason. Looks on in the source though :-k

Site looks clean and clear. Not a fan of the alternating text colour though personally.

I've just added jQuery navigation to mysite. Was in dire need of a new way to do it and I was surprised at how easy it was to implement. Also love automation using CGI scripts :thumleft:

1. Sort out the grammar (check for use of apostrophes and capital letters).
2. Drop the multi-coloured titles (About Me, Portfolio and Links) in the RHS pane, they're horrible to read.
3. Drop the links to MR2 sites and rival web designers: The first bears no relevance to what you're trying to achieve, and the second actually harms it.
4. In the 'About Me' part, you need to big yourself up a little more. By saying you'll take anything you can get, you don't sound particularly confident in your own abilities.
5. The whole site looks like it was designed in a generic WYSIWIG editor. Whilst I'm sure that it wasn't, it does look very... well, generic.

That said, the colour scheme works beautifully and is very easy on the eye, and the logo swirly-thing should serve you very well as a logo long into the future. Me likey. :)

No, I couldn't do any better myself before anyone moans at me for being too negative, and everything I've posted above is just what jumps out at an experienced interweb user of 13 years immediately from a quick 2-min flick through. I've tried to be constructive with hints as to sort out everything, apart from no.5 as I've no real idea what you could do there because I'm not a designer. ;)
