my first 2

Post by sam_bilbie »

got my first 2 well i bought it towards the end of last summer but only just got round to joinin up an uploadin some pictures, its a totally standard rev 3 g-ltd tbar. Dont really claim to know much about mr2s as this is my first one lovin it so far though! heres a few pics.

i have a few mods planned for it but nothing major, nothing against aftermarket kits but already done it all b4 on other cars n wanna keep this one simple, what am goin for is tryin to have it subtle so when people see it they know its different but its not obvious what is no lairy wings bumpers skirts etc

Im currently refurbing the wheels, in the process of sanding them back n metal polishing them up to a mirror finish heres a pic of the progress, this is only the first sanding stage though they still have a long way to go - photobucket is being ridiculously slow so ill upload this picture later

My plans for it are to remove the 2 badge from the front n back get this all painted up, get the numer plate on the front relocated into the grill - remove the fogs from the front grill and get a polished alloy grill fabricated up to replace the plastic one, a cupra type r front spitter.

Finish polishin up all wheels, painting the rear lights so there all completely red obviously still so u can see through them.

I also wanna turn the twin intakes into a single on all the others ive seen they tend to have aftermarkets skirts as well so i dont know if it will look weird without them, has anyone done this and kept the rest of the side standard??

I wanna get a new exhaust for it not for noise just for looks but mines an na and they all tend to sound too loud to be honest can anyone recommend anything good? the main reason i want one is because i like the look of the polished back boxes hangin down at the rear, the only other option i have is just gettin some new tailpipes fabricated and welded on and getttin the standard box polished.

Oh and also am after a decat but does this alter the existing sound of the exhaust? i dont mind slightly i just dont wanna turn my mr2 into a chavy sounding corsa

Theres a few other bits to get done to but that should keep me busy for the time being.

thanks, the wheels really are taking much longer than i thought 4 days on them and one is still not started.....the dirt is really engrained and the alloys are pitted be worth it though.

The Blueflame is quite a nice, well-made exhaust for an NA. Large shiny back box on show when you bend the grill and well sized tailpipes.

More importantly the tone is gentle and only roars when you open it up.

Welcome along :thumleft:

I agree that blueflame is a nice exhaust, the magnex/mogoose are quiet exhausts just a bit loader than std.

Looks nice. Theres a few people who have modded the side intakes on here, should be a write up somewhere I`m sure with pics. Dont think it would make it look weird doing that without skirts, subtle mod, probably would look pretty good!

Hiya fella that's a very nice looking standard 2 you have there. Welcome to the site and ownership, I hope both are fun and reliable.
Totally agree about keeping the modding subtle, they're already great looking cars. Exaggerate the standard lines and add detail. I've kept away from kits and gone for an old school look with mine (they're clearly influenced by earlier ferraris) and have ended up with I think an individual looking car (pics in garage if you're interested). Hope you do the same.
Anyway good luck with it, enjoy and treat it well and it'll return the favour.
