I bought a suspension kit off Fensport, uprated springs & dampers, plus Superflex kit.
Its waaaay too hard for road use, advice on this forum was that its the over stiff dampers. So I've bought some standard dampers & put the uprated ones on e-bay. But Fensport tell me its the springs that are too hard not the dampers being too stiff.....
could be the bushes contributing as well. harshness is subjective, different people have differing ideas of what defines harsh, and what is acceptable. i doubt the springs are causing your issues, so it will likely be a combination of the dampers and the bushes.
have a look at how low your car is sitting as well, it could be that its sitting on the bump stops with lowered springs. in which case cut the bump stops shorter, as if its hitting these on bumps it will feel extremely harsh without needing to be.
What Tim said.
From experience the KYBs are quite solid, however I have them in combination with Whiteline springs and they're a good allrounder (track and road).
Not sure what the fast road springs are like but my previous car that had low springs and KYBs was 'kartlike'.
My KYB with PI spring combination felt like my fillings were being shaken out my teeth
But then I also had rear dampers modified to fit the fronts which gave an even harsher ride. The car was used predominantly on track and could just about bare road runs to/from circuits in it.
Having just bought a complete set of KYB shocks, fensport springs, all polybushes, new bal joints and drop links for my race car, the fact that they're hard and barely move is good news for me
Can't wait for it to be finished this week.
Roy, did I plant this seed in your head the other night, or was it just coincedence that we had both thought of doing the same Job?
Anyway, i have a full superflex polybush kit waiting to go in, and I reckon after 22 years that I could do with new shocks and springs (at minimum springs)
I don't want a bone shaker / filling remover, but similarly I don't want a floaty light marshmallow car.
I just want the thing to become a point and shoot mobile that I can sit in comfortably for an hour of B road blasting.
Whats the reccomendations, given that i have already bought the bush kit?
Finally is the bush kit hard to fit?
Thanks
Alan
1st question what's your budget Mitch.
Choices:
KYB Exel-Gs - cheap but pretty solid, I find mine in combination with whiteline springs are a great balance.
KYB GR-2s - Cheap and soft, I'm not 100% on this but there seems to be some discrepancy between the KYBs you get over here and those in the states as some folks who orders from the US ebay got some distinctly sloppy struts.
Tokico non adjustable - not had any experience of them
Tokico adjustable - reasonably priced but you'll need to import them from the US, I've heard some good things about them.
Koni adjustable - Expensive but the best quality shock before you get into coilovers etc.
Heavy duty or new Toyota top mounts are always a good idea if you can afford it.
My personal recommendation would be the first one as I have experienced it and am perfectly content with it. I have paired it up with a thicker read ARB and it all seems to work well. I'm not sure what it'll be like with the V6 but we'll see.
Thnaks for that.
Budget as always is an issue, BUT I only want to do the job once, and I wont be going to any tracks etc.
I just want a good set up that isn't too low or too hard
Can the standard stuff be bught easily and at a fair price, as if I had that along with the polybush kit then that might be all I need.
Koni was my 1st choice for a modified set up.
I seen it on larkspeed.com, part num 2617234
is that correct?
It seems awfully pricey
