The story so far in my red rev2 turbo

Post by drift88 »

Hello,

Sorry to all you folks who want a quick read but I thought I'll put down the experience I've had with the car since owning it.

I bought the car on a whim, is was either this or a Saab 9000 2.3 CDE LPT for 1600 quid and the saab was a 1 owner, low mileage 122000, the cleanest saab I had seen. One minor gripe 4 doorrrrrbore! So I snapped up this car you see before you.

Right I will start off by saying the car cost me 1800 quid and I bought it off a forecourt and yes it was a part ex and yes I took a five minute test drive in it. All big no's I know but guess what! it paid off, well to be honest it did for about half an hour :!:

Travelling home after I picked car up from brum on the way to cheltenham on the motorway at 80 big wobble ah! wheel alignment, only thing is I'm broke and as I wanted to take the car to powerstation as recommended by mr2 ben's, it wasn't going to be cheap, also the car needed front tyres.

So after having the car for a few days I took car down to national tyres to get fresh rubber. The tyres were in a right state worst than I thought. So bad that I presumed that was the case the wobble at 80 happened.

I decided to go wth toyo T1R's as the recommended yoko's are too much. Pretty happy with my purchase I took car for a spin (not literally) on the motorway cr@p wobble still their.

For the next month till payday I had to drive to and from work on the motorway at 70 or less in a car that can quite easily do double, I was fuming

Had the wheel alignment done and boy did the car need it, the tester told me the car has never been done!!!

It felt like a brand new car!!!

A month had past and a new year had commenced and it was time to spend more money on the car

From when I had first bought the car their was a resonator vibration between 1600rpm to 2000rpm right behind my ear. I hadn't bothered getting it sorted as I thought it was a heatshield problem .

So I booked car in to well known local garage were I have had many repairs done to my car's in the past and he sorts out race cars so well trusted.

Anyway it turns out to be the cambelt tensioner bolt, has or had sheared off while the last owner had replaced the cambelt either he did not realize the bolt was sheared or he had done it than put the car in for part ex.

Problem solved no more noise, wasn't cheap cause it took awhile to find and replace part and thank my lucky stars the belt did not come off. He described to me how slack the belt was and if it wasn't for the bolts that hold the cambelt cover on it would of been game over :!: .

But their was still one more problem to get sorted, shocks.

I knew from the clunks from the nearside rear and the coolant change I had on the car just after I had the tyres done, the mechanic said the rear shock had seen better days.

I have spent most of my ownership of the car putting up with a dodgy shock and because of all the other problems could not afford to fix straight away.

I must of gone on every site looking for replacement black billes fensport, tcb, camskill, motorsportworld and not forgetting ebay and it was on ebay I spotted some black billes with tein springs attached.

Only thing was I changed my mind as I had a few extra quid to spend and started to look again on ebay and spotted these coilovers, BC BR Racing coilovers, alot cheaper than similar tein coilovers, american branded built in china probably but at the end of the day who cares.

I'm sure most of you on this fantastic site have heard of 3S Service Centre and have been there and they defo know about mr2's so I did not think about the decision I had to make for long and went ahead and snapped them up and went down there last thursday to get them fitted.

So far so good really pleased with the way they set them up got to test the car as best as I could because the rain was none stop on the journey back, well pleased with the way they ride, I was expecting them to crash over bumps but tbh they don't ok the ride is hard but they seem to soak up the bumps better than anything I've had on any car.

Highly recommended :!:

That's it for now or maybe not, need some decent brakes, decent ice setup and refresh the paint this summer the list is endless. Oh well you earn it you maze well spend it.
