Game Trade In's: Game = Fail HMV = Win

Post by matt_mr2t »

Just tried to trade Fight Night 4 and Modern Warfare 1 in at Game and got offered a whopping £13 for the PAIR of them. I was stunned. £80 worth of games! Said no, tbh, for that money, i'd rather give them away to a friend for nothing. Then i remembered that HMV are now in the used game market and popped in there to see, not expecting much. However, £27 for the pair! That's with store credit, same as Game, they offer a couple of quid less for cash, but unlike game, hmv has loads to use your cash on. Just looking at a flier with a list of others, Modern Warfare 2 £25, Borderlands £21, Ghostbusters £13, even GT5P is £8. Pretty sure those are far higher than Game would ever offer. I'm gonna smash through AVP quickly, have another run through on Bioshock 2 and go back and trade them in, reckon i'll get £50 - £60 for the pair.

Trade in prices on games is a waste of time. Get more off ebay.

FFS, another high street retailer turns into a 2nd hand jumble sale

You don't get TopShop selling 2nd hand clothes etc.
Wonder if I could trade in my used toilet or left over paint at B&Q

If you play and complete games quickly then just buy them from Asda. The Asda up here still have empty cases out and keep the disks behind the counter. So you don't get a sealed game, which means you buy the game, take it home and once you have completed it take it back for a full money back refund (Providing it is within 28 days). :thumleft:

I have done this now with my past 7-8 games, beginning to run out of excuses for returning them though.

Strange, I didn't think they'd be able to take it back due to software piracy laws :-k

I buy all my games second hand. Don't see the point in buying new, would sooner spend my money on making my MR2 faster :)

Not had any problems to date.

Me: Hi there, I bought this for my brother birthday but he already has it/
Customer Services: Okay, would you like to exchange it or would you just like a refund?
Me: A refund would be grand please.
CS: Not a problem Sir.

That is how it has went for the last 6-7 game purchases. They must think I have a load of brothers

Where do you buy your games from? All GAME games are security sealed.

me and my friends/brother used to rip game off rotten.
back in the days of the ps1, n64 and dreamcast even the ps2 (used to be electronics boutique back then) it was "no fuss 14 day return on any game or console" so we would buy games finish them then take them back for a refund or a straight swap just like a long free rental lol
we would buy games from other stores for say £10 and then take them to game say "my mom bought me this but its the wrong one am i able to exchange it?" so they would swap if for a new game and give you a reciet, 10days later take it back for a full refund lmao.
we even took back a dreamcast once that didnt work, said it was bought for my bros bday and they swapped it for a new one and game us a free game for our troubles lol

now i dont think they do the 14 day return thing:( and they also ask for id which is annoying because before it was just ur addy and signature which we would just make up each time.

I dunno what hmv returns policy is but when i bought my ps3 it came with 2 games of my choice and i chose motorstorm. God it was bad. Worst thing i've ever played in fact. Monday morning "please can you change this, it's dreadfull" I admitted i'd played it, he thought about it then said fine, just pick another one from the list. Oh btw, i used my store credit in hmv yesterday to get avp and got 800 xbl points free.
