[Mk2] [Generic] Fuel/Petrol light won't turn off! Need help

Post by jit112 »

Hey all,

The other day I filled up but the fuel light is not turning off.

The needle is working fine, and is showing the approx fuel left, but the amber illuminated light is not turning off, even when theres half a tank in there!

Any ideas on what it could be?
How to fix?

Cheers

This might be of some help.

My low fuel light was stuck on a while back and I had to replace the whole sender unit. £96 + Vat from Toyota!

cheers mate, that was useful.....

Is there no other way round it?

The needle is working perfectly fine, its just the light that is staying on?

Im assumed a fuse or something had gone, because the fuel sensor would coincide with the guage needle and the light.

But am confused now, nt sure wat to do :s

As per the thread that Moo linked to...

The sender for the gauge and the sender for the low fuel light are seperate. This is how one can break while the other still works. It will be your low fuel light sender, they do pack up from time to time.

+1. You'll probably end up having to replace the whole sender unit to get the low fuel warning light working properly. You might be able to find a working second hand unit from a car being broken but as these do fail fairly often you might be best off getting new one. It's pretty easy to remove the fuel sender from inside the car without having to drop the tank. You could always take out the sender and try moving the float up and down to see if it kicks the warning light back to life.
