[Mk2] [Generic] tbar vs tin top

Post by P11SCL »

There won't be much difference between a Tbar with a/c and tintop with a/c. At least not noticable under normal driving conditions.

As far as I know all the variants came with a/c.

Of course there's the issue of leaky T-tops etc to take into account if you're in the market for another mk2.

Most imports will have AC, whether t-bar or tintop :thumleft:

Unless you are looking for a dedicated track toy, I personally don't think you will notice much of a difference in either day to day.

All import mk2s have full climate control - even the boggo "G" grade car that had manual window winders!

Aircon was a cost option on all UK models. The only difference in specification was that UK t-bar models always had leather interior - this was an option on the moon-roof model.

According to a couple of books about the MR2, the T-bar is actually more rigid than the tin-top.
I assume that's down to whatever extra bracing they put in it. :?

Must admit, I'd be more comfortable driving a tin top as a track car, purely in case of any "worst case scenario" incidents.

I know when I jack up the back of my T-bar the front wheel lifts off the ground as well.
Makes a change from my old Stag where you couldn't open the doors when you had a wheel jacked up. :D

lol, Years ago I had my 1st mk2 coupe on axle stands while servicing the brakes and suspension, at 1 point it was sat on one front and one rear axle stand :pale:

Same here although mine is a tintop - in fact when I had coilovers on it any amount of jacking the car up would sometimes result in it being balanced on the jacking point and 1 wheel...

Likewise, mine is a tintop. I jack my car up from the sill and it lifts that whole side of the car. Infact, I have never had a car which hasn't done this. Needless to say, all my cars have been as comfortable as sitting in a rose bush.
